For what it is worth, my opinion: Shark Freediving Patrick & Karol Set New Tandem No Limits Record – Do We Care?
This has nothing to do with community spirit. Exactly the opposite. In my opinion I just don't like inventing new disciplines like this. It was the same with Stig his O2 record. That is not freediving! That's 'sport on steroids' so to speak and has nothing to do with athleticism.Do I detect a lack of freediving community spirit there Jorg? Why the attempt to dampen the event? In the spirit of freediving its a great achievement! AIDA is not the be all and end all of all freediving records. (if they were, then David Blaine would be disappointed and so would all the holders of O2 static records or do we ignore those records too?)
What makes a tandem record "official or not official"? It is recognized by those who achieved it, witnessed it and participated in it. It also sounds like a lot of fun. Patrick was over here doing tandem dives with the guys in Abu Dhabi and they said it was awesome, something to be repeated.
Perhaps, "don't knock it till you've tried it?" And if you have tried it and don't think its worthwhile it doesn't take the feeling of success felt from two people who worked hard to achieve it.
Congrats Patrick and Karol!
I'm with Kars on this one.
And to compare the O2 record with the use of steroids is completely wrong.
The use of steroids is normally done in secret to have an advantage at the other competitors. In this case the use of O2 is part of the game.
In my opinion both of them are separate disciplines.
