Hi Speedoglyn :D (do you wear a speedo for freediving? Enquiring minds want to know!)

Seriously, see this link
http://www.deeperblue.net/courses/
The courses are not so expensive and well worth the effort.

Welcome to DB - i am sure you'll learn loads here there are plenty of knowledgeable people lurking about :)

I found a German freediving internet group who have loadsa meetings for static breath hold practice and tank dives, there are loads of pics of their best diver who always blows right out before holding his breath, i tried this and the only benefit is I dont feel out of breath when I start breathing again! Dont want to try it underwater though, Im scared Ill get a lungful of water by mistake? PS whats wrong with a speedo should I have a wetsuit??

I'm not sure, but I think samdive may be the ticket for helping you. She is one one of the resident, guru members.

P.S. I do wet statics with a properly trained partner like this:

1. 5 minute facial immersion without a mask and only a snorkel (relax)
2. 2 minute proper breath up technique
3. 2 minute breath hold ending with 3 hook breaths and 3 ventilation breaths
4. 3 minute proper breath up technique
5. 3 minute breath hold ending with 3 hook breaths and 3 ventilation breaths
6. 4 minute proper breath up technique
7. 4 minute breath hold ending with 3 hook breaths and 3 ventilation breaths

Maybe samdive can explain and assist you if or when you met her. Good luck.

Welcome onboard speedoglyn
if you can hold your breath 3min , it is really fine ,
ofcourse changes in water!,,,
some can hold 3min+ and manage to stay nearly 2min, too
some can hold 3min+ but only 45sec can stay
my idea, depends how much you love the sea and how much you feel the ocean inside you, how much you practice
it is already coded our DNA, you only can do try to waken up and work, work work, it will come out, i sugest you never dive alone and ask what you need to learn, there here is many pro freediver and spearos
Sorry my bad english!
Take Care

Hello mate and welcome. I attended a course at HMS Dolphin earlier this year and fully recommend it. We had absolute novices with us that weekend and even they were getting to 10M and beyond. It is very good value for money considering the kick-start it will give your freediving. The instructors are very patient and have all gone through the same process themselves. You'll have a great laugh, go for it.

Yes I've seen pictures of that place, but I would need a good teacher I reckon cos it looks well dodgy!! Can I train in a local pool? I Dont want the lifeguard to think I'm drowning if I arent

Hi Speedo, loads of people will warn you rightly so about triaing in pools. Dont use a lifegaurd always a buddy who knows what they are doing. I did the sett course same as spaniard and found it great. I had no experiance other than scuba and got to the bottom thanks to great instructors ( thanks again sam and emma). It opened my eyes to what was possible and you are always totally safe. A pool training on your own is probably the most dangerouse place to be so join a club or train with others and they will bring you on. Well done so far but I cant say enough about the sett course for a beginner.
Regards Feargus
