My leg kicks have no propulsion

Right I think I have Sussex the problem and I'm hopping steve will iron the problem out glid after pull seems ok but when I bring my arms in and my legs in then I stop like a brick wall and I have to wait for the pull from my arms to get going again :O the joys spent almost 2 hours today in the pool can't figure it out raaaaa lol

Wow! Elizabeth does a frog/dolphin hybrid kick. Interesting - there is the horizontal frog stroke - then a little vertical snap at the end.

I have been working on this. I don't use a neckweight - just go with half lungs to adjust. I find it is actually easier to do legs only than arms only - glide with the kick is much better due to the streamline. With no suit - so my legs sinking is what ends the glide - I've been getting 4 kicks per 25m - no arms.

For me it seems to be a combination - not going too wide with the legs on the load-up - and focusing on bringing the feet together when the legs are straight.
It feels like the most thrust comes when the legs are straight and moving toward each other. I also do attend to the position of my feet.

I try to feel the water compressing between my legs and feet while keeping good streamline. Since I began practicing legs only I've knocked almost a full kick/stroke cycle off my dnf.

Again - I do this with no weights and no speedsuit. I think if my legs were closer to neutral I would easily subtract a kick in 25m.

I've always dolphin kicked after a frog kick and it thrusts me forwards lots but I stopped doing it since I started practicing my free dive tech maybe that's my problem so I'm going to put my dolphin kick back in as it is what I naturally do and have done my whole life when I swim under water test and see

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQcKMUeF0wc]YouTube - Anders Larsson DNFNA World Record[/ame]

This is a couple of years old but you can also get a good view of his kicks. I don`t know if this is still the "record."

Cool... I'm currently doing 100m DNFNL not to be different, but because my kick pushes me backwards :)

Anyone know if there is 'record' out there for this?

I think I might hold the unofficial DNFNA record. I did 130m in a comp when I was recovering from a dislocated shoulder last year. I think the video is on youtube, but I'm at work so I can't use the site right now.

Will Winram has the best freediving no fins kick, but the go swim site also has some good videos. It's an unnatural motion for most people, so it takes a lot of training if you're not one of the lucky few.

Chris, have you tried arms only yet? I'm curious to know what decent pool competitors can do. It would be interesting to compare your 130m no arms to your no legs performance. Also, what's your PB in normal DNF?

No arms only. I would need a good reason to do it if I wanted to set a real PB, like with my shoulder and the no arms. If I break a leg or dislocate a knee I'll get back to you...

Normal PB is 155, but that was some time ago. I would guess with arms only I might do 110?

Edit: Video of DNFNA. I was a bit tired from the day before and my technique isn't great, but you might find it interesting.

Hahaha let's hope you never do a max DNF arms only then! :)

Thanks for the video. I see I've got a lot of work to do on my kick before I can even think of adding it to my DNF style!

Thanks!
