First off, happy holidays!!

I'm not a scuba diver. I know some about the physiology of diving, but I need to solicit a more practical experience with this.

Anyway, I read in Nemo 33 tank there are bunch of "caves" at 10 meters. Divers can stop by there to go to the 10m observation tower.

My question is, lets say I freedive from surface, stop by at these 10m caves, stay there to take a breath for one or two minutes, I assume the air there is pressurized to match the water pressure? Otherwise all the glass windows would blow out?

Now since I'm practically breathing the compressed air (just like scuba folks), when I'm going back up to surface, I should exhale the air to prevent bends, right? Do I need to go empty lung?

I assume this would also work the same if I started entering water from 10m tower?

basically, it is possible to do it but there are a few issues and risks involved.

yes, you will breathe compressed air in that "cave". yes, you will have to exhale on the way up. you dont exhale to avoid bends, you exhale to avoid lung overexpansion/rupture. to avoid bends (dcs) you have to ascend very slowly.

i don't know where you will do this but do you know the air in that "cave" is clean and replaced? if it's not you will have a problem (contamination, little o2, etc).

also, not having any experience with diving i'm not sure it is a good idea to experiment with breathing compressed air at depth during freediving. not from 10m at least. try that at the bottom of a pool first and get an idea about the degree of expansion. you surely don't want to fuck it up.

and then there is the nitrogen saturation/dcs issue.

personally i'd say it is an unecessary exercise. just freediving you can sit at 10 metres holding your breath for a minute fairly comfortably with a little practise and avoid all above mentioned troubles alltogether.

nemo 33 only allows freedivers to go to 10 m
if you stop by at the caves bud you will be inrtoducing a risk to a freedive .
i personaly do not see the point of doing this
keep your dives as safe and as risk free as possible as careless diving will only make it harder for other freedivers to use nemo 33

This is more of hypothetical what ifs, rather than I'm actually going to do it in person. I was thinking about this after seeing these: Nemo 33, Brussels

if you take full lungs down to 10m they will be half the volume at 10m so if you breath full lungs in the cave and ascend to the surface your lungs are in for a bit of trouble .
