Today I received my order from Waterway Finswimworld which included a monfin and accessories (see beginning freediving on this list) and a set of Powerblades by Waterway in #3 hardness. The blades fit in Sporasub boots and must be drilled in two places on each blade to mount them correctly. (Use a #1 drill for screw clearance).
I chose the Sporasub H Dessault fins with purchasing better blades in mind. Asking for advice about fins can be very confusing. About the time you settle on one type of fin, you find someone saying how their fin is much better. Most recommend Sporasub footpockets for comfort, but they come with plastic blades that don't have much "life" in them. Even so, the H Dessaults were light years better than what I was using before I bought them.
The Specialfins blades are even longer than the H Dessaults! Overall length is now right around 36 inches. I will have to disassemble these fins to travel to Hawaii in a week.
A friend at my local dive shop let me try out his Atomic Split Fins. He highly recommends them for scuba. I liked the ease of use, but determined to take the recommendations of freedivers on this list and not buy them. The Powerblades have the "live" feel of the Atomic Splits, but are configured in a shape that freedivers can use. At $100 for a set of blades they a step better than the H Dessault blades, and I feel that they are well worth the money.
