Hello puplhs_manila,

Are you interested in diving without a scuba tank??
If you're new to the sport, you don't need to spend a lot to get started. Visit a dive shop near you to have a look at the equipment and to get an idea of your sizes. You can then try shopping for bargains on the internet. Just remember that postage, exchange rates and import tax can be very expensive, so if you find an item online that is cheaper than at your local retailer consider the extra costs.

Like any sport, you can buy cheaper gear that works fine, or you can spend a lot of money on high performance gear. It really depends on how long you have been diving, and what you hope to acheive.

I'm not sure where you are based so it would be hard to make any relevant suggestions as to where you should try shopping or in which currency.
This is an example of what I would expect to pay for a basic outfit of quality, specialised gear, without any postage or other costs:

Mask $75 +
(Picasso Black Team)

Snorkel $25
(Mirage Wasp w/purge valve)

Fins $199 +
(JB Esclapez)

Wetsuit $199 +
(3mm Steamer, Oceanic)

Weights & Belt $55 +
(3x3lb weights @ $7.00)

Total AUD$553

You could find a very basic outfit even cheaper, around $350/$400 without the long blade fins and low profile mask. But the advantage of these items is, you can start to look and feel like a freediver right away!

Hope that helps, Good Luck.

I suggest if you think you will stick with it buy a custom made Ellios Wetsuit it will fit you better and keep you warmer. Remember if you are too warm you can just let in water. I don't know your dive conditions if they aren't as warm as some of these lucky guys have a 5 mm suit may be better.

I agree. In the beginning, put most of your resources into getting a good wetsuit. It will last years with proper care and make the beginning more pleasurable. If you're cold and uncomfortable, it doesn't matter how fancy fins you have, you will feel crappy.

Fins and masks...Honestly, in the beginning, it doesn't matter that much. You need a mask that does not leak and fins that fit in your feet. That will get you started. As you go on, you can buy fancier ones. No need to get carbon fiber fins right in the beginning...You can get a good mask for 30-40euro and very nice freediving plastic fins for around 60euro. I don't see any need to spend more than that in the beginning...For the wetsuit, I'd reserve 150-250 euro, depeding on how thick you need it to be and if you get a tailor made (which I recommend) or not...
