new pair of fins

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.

Bet the plastic blades have a crack in them by the end of next season. Remember Apnea prices don't include VAT. Scubaland France have Ice 3's for £70 ex VAT with 3 year warranty. Only another £10 and same postage. If you still don't like the idea of them being see through - paint them.

Im not sure what to get now the idea of ice is growing on me but some people have said they are to soft
 
Depends how deep you dive and how much weight you carry. I dive mostly 10-15 meters and if I am not overweighted they are great. The Millenium runners are made with the same thermoplastic - just black and about twice the stiffness of the ice fins. They are also cheaper

its tough to decide. This is a sport where you just buy stuff and try them out. If its not what you want, you ebay them. And then start over again rofl

Thats a good price. I need to buy some fins that are really good and fast on surface for 10 meters or less that can take a serious beating.

I certainly won't ebay my ice fins - only used them in the pool so far, but they are the best I have tried.

they still havent been tried that much though, but like i said my personal belief is that they are good fins, i almost bought them myself then i went for something with some more reviews, who knows maybe one day ill have to increase the collection :t

where would you normally go diving, the thames rofl, no offence buddy, just fooling around , but seriously where do you go, the channel islands, dorset etc....

I can vouch for them being quite sturdy. Lots of standing on and scraping against rocks and zebra muscles - also very cold water with no change in flex

I have only been diving in the pool so far. I would like to do open water diving, but it is not practical at the moment. It is very cold and I'm not sure about it. I would only want to do shore diving or from a boat with a rope, definitely not far from something to hold onto.

A few days ago at college I went to the college lake to net some fish. When I arrived I didn't even get in the water. Some people got in with waders, but I didn't want to. It was a cold and windy day, and I got so cold just standing around that it took me the whole day to recover. The water was totally murky, 0cm viz. It was shallow, muddy and stagnant. It looked and smelled so dirty that I didn't even want to wade in with boots. About as appealing as the Thames.

The whole thing made me realise that don't want to do any inland diving unless I can find a very good lake.

I've picked the hybrids for the same reason, plus I was not willing to baby sit a carbon fin just yet and the north america dealer did had his act together so would have being difficult to claim a warranty in case of any problems.

What foot pockets you use with your hybrids ? I assume you are using the omer pockets with rekords.

yeah omer for both. I like them. I dont see the need for anything different. My foot is shaped normal.

Some people in the med modify their rekords. They cut the rails down and they say it has better performance. I havent tried it yet.

Some folks really like the picasso pockets because of their hard sole, so there is no flexing under the foot, I was just wondering what did you have. Even the omer pockets are not as hard on the sole as the picasso.
 
I had a chance to use Sven's Hybrids and was impressed with their overall snap. They are shorter and wider than my C4's which was a little strange to get used to with a flutter kick. They worked great using a sculling/frog type kick.

As far as footpockets go, I was amazed at the difference in fin performance when I switched from OMER pockets to Sporasub pockets on a pair of S.F. Medium Kelpies I got to try out. At first I thought that the Mediums seemed much to stiff, until I switched the footpockets over to the Sporasubs and the whole feel of the fin changed- for the better.

Picasso footpockets are pretty nice from a stiffness point of view. There is no flex when you hold them up by the back of th footpockets. I played around with my black teams a bit this summer up at Freedive-A-Palooza and was, pleasantly, surprised at how well they compared to my other, carbon, fins. I would have to call them my favorite plastic fin. I have found that the stiffness of the fin can change quite a bit depending upon th water temp. They are rock hard when Ice diving, but much softer when down on some island in 80+ degree water.

My friend up here in Alaska goes through a lot work in order to fit his special fin blue water special into his picasso pocket. The picasso pocket seems to be narrower than the other brands.
Since the sporasub is not making foot pockets any more, what other brand is other there, beuchat ?
 
Spettons will work for sure and the Waterway NEMO pockets might work as well.
