Hello All,

I recently moved to Watsonville, CA from Chicago and I am interested in taking up freediving and progressing to spear fishing. I recently got the basic free diving equipment (2 piece wetsuit, fins, mask and snorkel, gloves, booties) and I ready to get out and try it. I am looking for some people to network with and guide me in this awesome new hobby.

Any advice?

Eddy

Welcome to Deeperblue! We have a number of members in your area, mostly between San Jose and Monterey. You're also reasonably close to the Monterey Bay Tritons. You may want to reply to previous threads from folks in your area, which you can locate by browsing the USA/Canada or Intro subforums, or you can use the search function.

There are professionally-taught freediving classes in Monterey. I would encourage you to seek one out, as they are unbeatable for learning proper technique and safety protocols.

Feel free to ask questions, look around, and say hello in the USA/Canada subforum. I know a few things about the central coast, as I did a bit of diving there before moving to Southern California.

Thank you for the info! I will look search around the forum and look into the classes offered in Monterey.
