this might be a silly questions but is there a chart with areas that you can and can't spearfish . I will mainly be fishing in Dorset and maybe Devon.

There are some charts of "Bass nurseries" - usually river estuaries - where fishing for bass is sometimes or always forbidden.

Last I heard, Kimmeridge bay is a *voluntary* marine reserve - and possibly destined to be marine reserve in the future - I think mainly to preserve it from commercial fishing. There is a study centre & marine "museum"/exhibit there. Fishing boats launch from there too. Anglers and spearos do fish there, although usually on the outside edges. Be aware that people care about the coastline and act accordingly (e.g. politely, with restraint and sensitivity to other visitors and locals). Supposedly some of the locals sometimes claim to be officials but are not.

Can you tag along with a more experienced spearo? Might be the best bet & faster to learn the ropes...

A Wessex Club centred mainly around Dorset started a thread on this forum a few years ago. Try searching DeeperBlue.com for the thread. Not sure if it is still active but certainly seemed pretty active at the start.

I'll move this thread to the appropriate regional area of the forum but leave a permanent link to it in the beginner area.
