Going to Destin next week will be my first time spearfishing just bought all my gear looking for a place to try this out for the first time any advise?

Don't drown! :D

Now more seriously: Enjoy it, safely. Don't desperately try to get a fish. Take it slow. In fact, don't even load your gun the first day. Just swimming around with it is a massive change from normal freediving and snorkeling.

After that, shoot it a few times just like that (in the water ofc), so you get used to it and also to the mess of shooting line, float line, reloading, etc. After that, go get dinner!

** Don't shoot anything undersized. **
If you somewhere deep inside you feel that that fish just isn't big enough, then let it live. Know what fish there are, what is edible, what is legal and what is sustainable.
