Hi,

I love to be underwater, but live in a cold country. Only
dive/snorkel when on vacation (Thailand, Philippines,
Egypt, Brazil, Indonesia...).

I'm a AOW, about 60 dives. Very confident in the
water.

I prefer snorkeling than scuba diving (the freedom,
more time in the water, cheaper...).

I would love to learn some techniques to be able
to stay longer in the water. I can stay u/w for
about a minute. I can dive to 10 meters, but
that is about it.

Depth is not so important to me, but rather time.
I would love to be able to double my u/w time.

Can you help me? Is there some training that
really works?

I do lots of sports, cycle everyday to work (22 km),
run, mountain bike on weekends (spring/summer/fall),
can swim for hours (slowly). My rest heart rate, however,
is very high (90s). I have been to the cardiologist and
sport doctor and they gave me the ok to sport to
my hearts content.

can hold 4+ (not in water). in water 2 min.it was 1 min in water
last month i learned being cool and relax it came up 2 min. it is enough for me. search form ''static table'' find out and study. if you make same excersize everyday you mentioned below, you must hold 2 min in one month easly .

it must be impossible.you rest heart rate should be 45-65.

I know it seems weird, but it is true! I wish it
would change, but so it is. I even bought a polar
heart rate monitor to monitor my efforts...

as long as the doctors say that it is ok.
My husband has sports equivalent to me,
same age, and has rest rate of about 45.

Yesterday I went running for 45 minutes. I wasn´t
tired or something, but my average heart rate was
176. And this is small for my standarts!

And I´ve been exercising since childhood. My parents are very
sportive (marathon and all) and made a point of making
us very active (cycling, swimming, ballet dancing, running,
gymnastics...).

I´ll look for a static table, whatever it is...
 
My heart rate is also high. I am doing more exercise now, so I will see what happens.

hi,
maybe you allready recognized that you can download those tables at the homepage of a friendly member (http://www.mozzi.co.za) :)
you have to unzip it and then it shouldn`t be a problem anymore!
There is also a description how to use them :)
For Table A the breath hold time should be about 50-60 % of your maximum
For Table B the first breath hold should be about 50 % of your maximum...

Just try it, i`m sure you`ll find the table that works for you...

It would be much easier for you to fill in some gaps of expirience and information (especialy regarding safety) if you'll find an expirienced buddy to train, dive or even just talk to face to face.
Fill in your location in your details, look under the buddy section if there's anybody in your area and if not post there. It's possible to find a buddy or a whole club with courses even (or mainly) in cold countries.

*How is your blood pressure (low/normal/high)? with such resting rate I'de expect it to be pretty low...
