Hey all,

Quick hi, i've just started diving and spearing over the last few weeks and just yesterday bought my first gun!!!! only problem now is we are having major rain so i have to wait to get in the water to use it.

Any how, looking forward to learning heaps and enjoying this amazing sport.

Hi Looney, yeah it's not the best. I'm just down the road in Sawtell. I only got my gun last week, already had some luck off our headland.
For all the foreigners, the attached photo is our current coastline.

Hey ReefTroll, i actually live in West Boambee, so sawtell headland will be one on my go to spots. just have to wait for this rain to clear. Plus i left my wetsuit at the Jetty last week so im now saving for a new one . But the water is warm atm, so ill be ok for a while.

Welcome to the forums Looney! You'll find some great stuff on here and i'm sure Reefy will take good care of you. Either that or bore you to death with stories about how fantastic Sawtell is I grew up south of there near Port Mac so I already know how nice it is.... sigh. Mind you none of us are going to see any water action for some time with all the rain at the moment. On the news tonight they were showing a photo of what looked like Coffs pier with a wave smashing about 15ft above it, crazy!

A whole East coast of bad weather Benny that's for sure.
It'll be filled with weed and muck for a long time after this weather, and then I imagine the headland may fill with maskrays again like last time we had bad conditions. (At least I think that's why they swarmed it more than usual)

Hey thanks for the welcome. So being completely new and having no idea what I'm in for. I have a few questions.
How long could it take to clear up and be ready to dive? I just bought a gun and weight belt and am keen as to try them out. Also do you think sawtell is a good place to start or should I stick to the jetty?

Looney I've only been here 7 months and haven't dived the Jetty but Sawtell is a decent place to start. As for how long until it clears, it could be a week, it's pretty messy.
