Greetings & Good Day All :D

I just signed up to the Forum & wanted to say hi & introduce my newb self  I'm a 36 year old, Bronx NYC resident whos been a long time snorkeler & apnea "dabbler" the year or so (practiced a little in Maui & the Bahamas), and am now taking the next step, a Free Diving Course. I'll be participating with Dana Beck's "Freedive NYC" course out in Dutch Springs, PA this coming June & am already super excited about it. Has anyone here on this forum attended that course? If so any feedback?

Not a whole lot to report as of now, but I'm happy to be here!

Welcome to the forums! I haven't attended that course, but I can recommend browsing through the forums. There is a lot of information here. Have fun, and please do post about your course when the time comes.

Hi, Im new here. I have never dived and I barely ever go swimming (I can swim though). Where would I begin if I am interested in freediving? I started splashing around in my gym's pool and downloaded the apnea-trainer app with O2/co2 tables. But I really don't know where to start... I am 29, female, 5'8 125lbs, I run 2-3mi 5x/wk. I don't really workout other than that! Please help. Need guidance :-)

Dana is a good friend and a fantastic instructor. I've heard only good things from her students. You'll be very happy with the class.

Hi everybody! Thanks for the welcome & replies ;)

@BatRay, I will most certainly report back about my experience with the course  Thanks again for the welcome!

Reindeer1984, where do you reside? I would start by researching the basic principles & fundamentals of free diving. Between great & vast resources on the internet, such as this site, as well as many other sites - and literature, there is plenty of info out there to get you acquainted. From there I would suggest looking into some kind of training course in your area. For one, you'll most likely be able to assess your abilities, and two so you can learn the safe & proper way to practice & implement what you'll come to learn, under safe guidance ;)

nyspear, thanks for the reply. So far I've heard great things as well, which has always been my expectation of Dana & the course :D I'm really, super excited & can't wait for June! Where do you dive/spear in/around NY?

I typically travel to dive and spear, but Dana will be taking you to Dutch Springs, which is a good place for you to train. It's a freshwater dive training facility that allows freediving. There are many in the area that spear in Long Island and along the Jersey coast. If you're on FB I would recommend joining the New York Area Freedivers and Northeast Freedivers groups.
