Newbie in SoCal

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.

90% of the time I don't inhale my mask air on the way up. Either coz I have some water/goo in it, or that I just don't feel like it or need it.
No harm done.
Equalizing is usally a concern only on the way down. You don't have to do anything on the way up.

Small tips, fins are very individual to each persons foot. Find some local fins to try on to make sure they fit right and feel good in the water. Inhaling the mask air on the way up is a concern only on deeper dives, say 20 meters +. Not enough to bother with otherwise.
 
I wish I had a pool to practice in...:hmm . Try getting a low volume mask (and the karma button is on the right bottom corner).:D
