Hiya all. Just found this site and I have to say it is great. Well, I have been training in swimming for years, never done scuba and have been interested in freedinving for the past couple of years. It sounds like the next step for someone who spends most of her time at the sea underwater rather that splashing around! Does anyone have any info about a club or training in the London area? At the mo, I just make do with swimming lengths underwater on my visits to the local pool...
Your help on this would be great.

Ta, Patty

Hi Patty, if your interested in learning more about Freediving then you wont be able to go past the book called Freediving written by Terry Maas. This is a great book to show you some of the tecnhniques and equiptment that are available, as well as lessons you would be able to do while in the pool. Hope this helps you to join the wonderful world all Freedivers know and love.
Good luck,
Wayne

Hi Patty and welcome to the awesome sport of freediving!

I think you'll find that there is a lot of information to be had regarding the sport - as long as you know where to lokk for it.

Wayne is right - get Terry Maas' book, it is considered the bible on the sport. It is also considered course material for teaching freediving here in the states for the YMCA program as well.

Hope this helps and once again... WELCOME!

The Terry Maas book you guys are refering to, is it the "Bluewater Hunting & Freediving" one or his "Freedive!" one? I'm not looking to do spear fishing yet, so I would rather get a book that teaches general freediving technique.

However if the hunting one includes the same freediving info as "freedive!" does, plus it talks about spearfishing, I would go for the hunting one.

thanks for your help!!

Terry

I couldn't find a London freediving club in my lists (I'm preparing a pretty major free diving website at the moment) but if I do, I'll drop you a line.
Meanwhile may I suggest....Underwater Hockey!!!! It beats just swimming around in the pool...you can be intensely striving to score under there. Great training for diving, and the most fun sport in the universe.
