Hello one and all

I've just begun Freediving...My parents are Scuba Divers (and tried to talk me out of it, and just go for skin diving instead) But I want to Freedive, I want to see things Scubaheads like my parents get to see.

I didn't want to Scuba Dive because of the noisy, heavy, expensive gear and the buttload of training didn't seem like it was worth it. Plus I already know abdominal breathing well (I'm a singer) and I can hold my breath longer than anyone I know.

I'm very well aware of the risks such as Shallow Water Blackout. I know it's very dangerous.

I have a couple of questions:

1. I know alot of the time freedivers use weight belts, but how heavy are they? Is ascending still easy or is it difficult?

2. How long can you stay under before getting Shallow Water Blackout in ascent.

sorry, but i just bounced on this one:

I didn't want to Scuba Dive because ...the buttload of training didn't seem like it was worth it

so you regard a handful of scuba training days as exessive? rofl

use the search function and you will find many threads on swb.

You're already on the right track. I've spent thousands before coming to the same conclusion.:head
