[News] New US Freediving Record in Dynamic No Fins

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Same here, looking forward to seeing the video! Congratulations, well thought and done! I love the suit, have you tried it with a monofin?

Evita,

Yeah we have tried it with a monofin and it doesn't work at all. The width of the neopreme between the ankles "blocks" the water flowing between them as you sweep the monofin back and fourth. We may try monoleg suit design for monofin though it will need to be very different than this, more like a dolphins tail. To keep it simple we now only do the suit for DNF as this is much easier, only thing to do is to reduce drag, not worry about propulsion from a monofin and drag.

Cheers Wes

Wes, did you manage to upload the video somewhere? I am still very eager to see it, and am certainly not alone! Please, please, pretty please!

Trux,

Yeah I will upload it and start a new thread entitled Wes Lapp US National 125m DNF New Video or something like that so you won't miss it. It went from the judges to Kirk Krack to some editor named "go" and we are waiting for the clip still. Its all volunteer work so I hate to bug them too much, I am really anxious to see it again too, I only saw it once!!

Cheers Wes

Wes that's really unique, well done mate, and 100 points for creativity as well :)

Ah - if Goh is doing the video it's going to look awesome (with a killer soundtrack). Goh did the World 2004 and Cayman 2004/2005 DVD's.

No - We have top people working on it. Top people.

Well,
Its been one whole year since this thread has been used and we still have not seen the video...
Also, was this dive ruled invalid or something? Why is this not the current USA national record?

Tony,

Its a bit of a sad and twisted tale.

Yes the dive was ruled invalid by the US National AIDA board as someone touched me while helping to put a pulse oxymeter on my finger. The performance was ruled to be OK so it counts for my AIDA ranking which is nice though the comp results (for all the competitiors) haven't made it to the AIDA International ranking lists yet (don't know why that is so you won't see the result in the AIDA ranking lists.

Also because the dive was under protest, the video, which was the official comp video, was under quarantine and not released to me for several months though I do have a copy now. I am working on a story that I plan to submit to a major magazine that revolves around the video and now don't want to show it online as there is a better chance they will run the story (I think anyway), if they have some video that shows something new that hasn't been released yet. I am not sure this will even work as who owns the rights to the video is a bit murky as it was a CAFA comp and was shot with PFI equipment and its of me competing though everyone involved is being very nice so I am not complaining there, just that its complicated.

So anyway thanks for your patience and please accept my appologies that I said you would have this nice video to watch and now don't, at least not yet I guess. Hopefully it will all work out the best for freediving and freedivers. Also just so you know there is no money or sponsors involved in this, just alot of guddling around by myself. If the magazine deal doesn't work out maybe it could be an episode for the IN-SEATV folks which I just watched last night and was awesome.

Cheers Wes Lapp
