I am very happy to announce you that we are organising from the 25th to the 28th of may 2006 the fourth edition of the NICE AIDA OPEN.

Second of the six rounds composing the french AIDA cup, the NICE CIPA OPEN 2006 is a NATIONAL OPEN that will be counting for the AIDA International ranking list.

The presence of international AIDA judges B will provide this competition a world record status. World records can be attempted in...constant with fins or no fins, static and dynamic with fins or no fins.

Depth competition will take place in the calm waters of Villefranche sur Mer. Indoor disciplines will be ran in a 50 m swimming pool…just like in 2005.

The competition will take place in Nice from the 25th to the 28th of may 2006with a maximum number of 80 athletes.

Hope to see you all coming again

Hi Francois,

Any idea what conditions, water temp etc will be like that time of year?

Cheers,
Ben

Should be around 17-19 degrees
20m visibility at least :D
It was great last year.
It will be again this year ;)

:D

I took in consideration many stuff to choose the dates, such as moon fase, old fishermen predictions, experience....In may, this are supposed to be the best dates if we don't take in consideration that the grand prix of Monaco is taking place at the same time...

Should be just perfect, sun shining, blue and clear water at about 20 to 22°C, and no wind.

But as my grandmother used to say, seasons are not what they used to be anymore:)

Impressive list of athletes (again)!

Just some speculation about cwt (dyn + sta should be interesting too)
Nitsch, Herbert 108+
Jattu, Timo 85-100
Néry, Guillaume 90-100
Pedersen, Peter 80-90
Kinnunen, Timo 80-90
Severinsen, Stig ?? (CNF?)
Ivanovic, Theo 70-80
Erik, Milles 60-70
Gustavsson, Weine 60-70
Harris, Mark 60-70
Horváth, Balázs 60+
Asp, Mikaell 50-60
Guerry, Nicolas 50-60
Lino, Khris Gattos ?? (very impressive dyn+sta)

Then there's a huge number of French guys that I cannot even guess what they'll do. Might be some surprises?

Anyone risk some guess for women or pool disciplines?

Everything is going just fine to have all these nice people diving here in Nice..
Counterweight system is functionning and we are using two ropes with two cameras.

Hope the weather will be as perfect as last year. The danish guys start to train tomorrow. They are going deeeeeep !.

Herbert is coming later for one or two dives before THE dive.

About the girls we ll see. Caroline debuissy has been having much fun diving deep this last days...she makes it look so easy !!!

Still, this comp is taking place in may and most of the athletes haven't reached their TOP shape. Maybe that next year we ll organise it early september. We ll see

I just got back from a week's holiday in Scotland with my in-laws. My training consisted of lots of haggis, black pudding and whisky.

Probably won't be bothering Herbert too much this time round....

Hi Benny,
don't give away our secret Aussie training plan! :friday
Well all except for the haggis bit :yack

All the best and have fun in the comp over there mate,
Wal

Go Benny! black pudding? I think there might be something in that..... all that dried blood has got to contain some haemoglobin... and some extra O2

I know a freediver who swears by a big bloody steak the night before diving so I reckon your secret nutrition techniques could rock!!

there's one better than black pudding.... when we were in Sicily we tried a local blood sausage that was pretty basic..... just blood boiled in a sausage skin. No oats, no spices, nuthin :yack :yack

Plenty of haemoglobin I imagine but even for a hard core carnivore like me it pushed my limits.

Anyway, enough talk of offal. What's the temp in Nice - can I pack my shorts?

Training is going well so far, all the big guns making their dives, though I heard one of the 60+ guys turned at 35m due to equalising (fistful of snot were his words).

I'm going ok, couple of PB's but nothing spectacular. Equalising starting to become an issue as I get deeper;

Cheers,
Ben

Heard a rumor that Herbert dove to 100m in training yesterday...So looks like he'll be trying for the wr?

Looks like Herbert is going for the wr with an AP of 109m

Others interesting ones:
Jattu 91
Nery 85
Pedersen 82
Ivanovic 75
Schneider 71
Gustafsson 70
Kinnunen 70...

Are there any photos, schedule (line-up of competitors), results of the qualification, or other details available? The CWT is tomorrow? Or does the DYF / STA come first?

Go Herbert!
I hope he makes it, he hasn't had much luck with CW recently, mind you he seems to always go for the WR or bust. :)
He can do the depth, he came so close in the world cup last year.
