I finally broke down and bought a bench grinder.

Jon, remember the spear on your old midhandle? Here it is a minute or two later.

...and I'm not even good at this yet.

i use whopps grinder for that he thought i was dumb for sharping my spear but it works really well but make sure you get it stright or your spear will not be true i found that out when i took too much off one side of the spear and it started to shoot low

lol i cheat 4 that i use a metered drill bit sharpner all i do is set it turn it on and stick in the point and.... 30 seconds later presto new tip

I considered one of those, okamotoa. But, the ones I looked at couldn't achieve a "pencil point" tip. They all made a wide tip - even the adjustable units. Could you post a photo of one of your spear tips?

I just use an orbital sander with a 120 grit pad in a vise...Be careful you guys... :naughty You can ruin the temper of the steel if you get it too hot!

Thanks for the bit re: overheating the spear.... but.... Does that really warrant a ":naughty" ? :hmm Unless we throw it through your window, you don't have much cause to scold us. It's MY spear rofl.

This post came at a crazy ideal time. Fargus64 just completely blunted my spear. Not his fault though, we were diving in a river and vis on the bottom 12 FOW was only about ten feet. So Im going to hand file it to a nice sharp point again I think.

thats cool, it would have come in handy yesterday when me, fleshy, and fargus64 went out and got into some suckers but the first shot we took went right through and hit a rock, for the rest of the day the spear was just bouncing off their bodies.

Yeah I was going to sharpen that for Flesh today, but he didnt bring it over even though it was in his car and i was with him for 3 hours this morning.:head

Flesh I think that maybe on my way to work monday I can stop by and get it, they have a table mounted grinder there and it will be a breeze to get that baby sharp!:martial

Yea, thanks mike, but Fargus64's dad says that he will sharpen it again for me, so Im leavin it to ERK. Speaking of ERK, weve got to get him on here once he starts spearing with us lol! I also hear that you are less likely to re-blunt the spear, so thats what Im tellin ERK to do.
