Good Afternoon I'm extremely new the freediving and the sport of spearfishing. I'm from Sac and I'm trying to find an area, perhaps near Monterey or along the Sonoma coast where I can do some entry-level spearfishing.

Monterey Tritons are a good resource. You may want to look them up.

We have also had a number of members who dive around Monterey. Try the keyword search and reply to existing threads.

If your in sac, ocean cove is a great beginner spot. Well protected with opportunity for rockfish. In Monterey, you could hit lovers point.

lovers is nice because it drops off deep kind of close. I've barely seen anything shootable, but then again i don't know half the fish since i recently moved from the west coast .

You could also try Ocean Cove. I think 2-3 hours from sac, very protected. Few ling's and cabs, but you can load up on perch and a variety of rock fish.
