Yes its that new guy again .
If you had a spare late Thursday afternoon and Friday day going spare and wanted a run over to the Llyn to play/faf around in a quiet bay with your new kit and being totally inexperienced where would you choose ??
Said bay would also need a close car park / layby I could wild camp in my van .

Hi everyone
Haven't been on here for awhile, lots of new faces. It would be great to see some of them at the 2014 LIC pairs comp which is just over a month away. We have 26 divers registered already with more signing up daily. If you fancy joining us for a dip then get in touch at pairscomp@yahoo.com, the more the merrier! Some great prizes up for grabs for the best specimens so everyone is in with a chance of winning something, but if your like me and you can't catch a cold then there's always the raffle and the BBQ!

Broseidon That was a nice definite replycan I ask why?
Sheltered bays with parking and easy access are a little thin on the ground to be honest. Aberdaron is shallow, sheltered, has no currents and has decent mixed ground if you look hard enough. It's not the best spot ever but is a nice, enjoyable dive - I've taken Bass, Gilthead, Mullet, Plaice & Founder there. You'll find good fishing from 3 feet to 9 feet of water - perfect learning depth.
I think someone mentioned Porth Oer a couple of pages back - as a beginner, you should avoid that like the plague! It has brutal currents, the first time I dived it I got dragged about 1k down the coast before I could get out! It can be ok if you know when the slack water is - it comes at a time you would not expect - it's not a dive for a newbie!
There's Iago but there's a big swim out to the fishable area and then it's very deep - far too deep for a beginner.
There's Porth Ceiriad but there's a mammoth trek down the cliffs and it's pretty crap in my opinion.
There are a lot of South Coast spots but to be honest, most are small and best fished from a boat where you can zoom from place to place. It takes time to know where to fish!
There's always Traeth beach, but to be honest, the fishing there is just too easy. There are so many bass and mullet that it's just not sporting. No proper spearo's fish at Traeth.

I think you are forgetting the time when we got swept down the coast at Aberdaron and had to get out, climb up a cliff and walk the 1 mile back to the car park hah. You make Porth Oer sound more dangerous than Syria!
Pob, with regards to to the sea, the best bit of advice I would give is to use your brains wisely and know that not one individual beach is 100% safe. The sea, wherever you are is as unpredictable as your Mrs after a few glasses of wine, it can ruin your day!
If the sea looks dangerous, get out.
If you start to feel tired in a current, get out.
If you get a gut feeling that things rant right despite everything appearing ok, get out ad nauseam.
All the beaches on the Llyn ARE safe when you don't run blindly into the sea without checking the current and prevailing conditions. In the same breath, they can all be incredibly dangerous if you don't read the signs. Just be wise and get yourself comfortable before heading off into the big blue yonder.
Lol - that wasn't Aberdaron - that was Turd Cove, the most over rated DafyddRees bass spot on the whole peninsular - to be fair, it was a great drift dive! Although it would have been nice to see a single fish in 2 hours of solid diving
Possibly I was a bit OTT about Porth Oer but if you hit it at the wrong time on a big spring, it's a pretty horrible dive! Lovely when it's calm though.
Mate, that current would affect the whole bay, not just an isolated portion 100 yards from the main beach lol.
Honestly, it doesn't all - these no current on the main beach - the angle of the bay in conjunction with the direction of the tide means that the cliff on the West side have a strong horizontal current. The tide floods on an angle to the main beach so the water is forced along the cliffs.
Turd Cove is over 700m from the beach
Aberdaron nice spot with two cheapie campsites two pubs and a chippie. It also has a big national trust car park. I caught my first uk bass there in about a foot of water, but to be honest, as bro said, its a lovely spot for a snorkel day or night whatever the fish action. hit it at low tide and you can see where the best spot is by the rocks and mooch around there for a few hours. Cant go wrong really. Also try in the shallows, sometimes you get lucky! All other comments re safety etc are totally sound. All this only valid if south side is calm.
Porth oer is fine but the currents out by the head of the bay can be...... Interesting. Agree, not necessarily great for a beginner. Generally you will find its pretty safe following the sides of a bay but once you reach the headland it all goes a bit wrong.
Oh, give anglesea a go too. Where are you coming from? Can knock an hour off the journey and there are some good beginner spots there too. Same rules apply though!

Hopefully today i will drive over and have a couple of hrs checking out the bays mentioned , may just potter about in the shallows and get to grips with all this new gear .
May even take the kayak and if water quality isn't the best i can at least I can have a play and check out a few spots .
Foxy , i live about 20 mins from Chester so will use the 55 , anywhere closer would be great great for just testing the gear out .

Got a 15hp merc aswell as it was a ggod deal and im not sure if the 9.8 might struggle with 2 or 3 divers.
Tip for anyone who has the bravo 12v pumps, get the battery pictured if you want to be able to inflate anywhere. The official bravo battery pack is over £150 . You can get that battery for less than £30 and it fits in the bag nicely , only weighs couple of kilos and fully inflated my boat with charge left in it. Good if you cant set up right next to the car.

Oh Patrick , forgot to say , sorted the idle issue out on the 9.8. Soaked carb in MEK and blew through, found loads of rust coming from a rusted screw inside the fuel pump , now replaced , runs and idles great.Pm sent re couple of easy anglesea spots.
as ever, only swim if you find the current etc acceptable although if you stay in the bays I mention, you should be fine - just watch the headlands.
Yes even at 34.8kg
Yeah even at 34.8kg the 15 is a bit of a dog to throw about compared to the Tohatsu. But it runs really nicely as its 2008 and is a fair bit quieter than the 9.8. Will have to do some boat tests soon , in reality I may end up flogging the 15, one pain about the mercury is the water intake is under the cav plate so it cant be run on muffs for cleaning, got to submerge it.
