Talking of bad vis ,I had conversation with a dive buddy (scuba), over xmas. the Gwynt y mor off shore wind farm came up. They are on the north wales coast off Rhyl. If you are un aware there are 160 - 50m? Turbines .some only 5 miles of shore .They are very big the bases are 5-10? m across. Anyway with the big tidal movements considerable turbulence is formed under water resulting in .....yep churning up the silt bottom, being carried both ways to Liverpool and to Anglesey .Don't think the viz has ever been great on the north side of the `mon`as it is with the straights' doing its bit and lots of shallow areas.So its not looking good and it can only get worse! I have scuba dived a wreck amongst the turbines two years ago vis was not good then .Any thoughts any one...... bar come Down the Llyn!

Me and a mate went fitting on some suits etc yesterday while in Devon... The Cressi technica 5mm size 4 was to big around my neck but seems ok elsewhere. So fitted on a size 3 which was fine, all though just... However we opted for the 7mm but no chance in the size 3 so have to go for the size 4 but hell is that thing restrictive or what, especially under the arm pits and it's hard work moving my neck around, having the hood off cuts off the blood to my head so need to keep it up.
So two questions really, will it loosen up a bit with use i.e stretch out a bit. I can remember how tight the neck seal on my dry suit was but thats fine now. A size 5 will be well to big. My mate was the same and experienced the same issues although with the size 4 and 5. Think we both need a size in the middle, haha
This then turned us back to debating the 5mm option as that was a lot more comfortable and a joy to wear. The guy there said 5mm will be fine, however Devon ain't exactly North Wales temperature wise. How much difference is there between the 5mm and 7mm temperature wise. Or do we just man up and get used to being restrictive in a 7mm.

I would say get the 5 mm and be comfortable! Try it out in the water and see if worse comes to worse you can get a 7 mm custom top half later. I use a 5 mm and have never been cold but I am a bit of a fair weather fisherman 
. It all depends what your planning to do, I dont think there is a cure all here. My advise for what its worth is be comfortable with freedom of movement. Rather than toasty warm but like maggie from the Simpsons! !

Yeah, I'd go for the 5mm - to be honest, nearly everyone's been fishing in 5mm's for years, it just seems we've all gone a bit soft recently and started talking about 7mm's.
I was cold in my custom Elios 5mm last season BUT the suit was five years old and the neoprene was getting very thin. To make it worse, I was over 215lbs (jacked) when I had it made but had dropped to about 175lbs by last summer (quit the gym in 2011) - a 40lbs difference - so that's going to let some water in! To make matters even worse, I somehow managed to order my suit WITHOUT long-johns! Meaning that the trousers ended around the bottom of my ribs - I'd have been much warmer if I'd had long-johns!
Last year was the first year I was cold so I'd guess a 5mm with long johns will do you fine! I don't think the temperature difference between 5 & 7mm won't be huge.
Check out Apnea.co.uk - they have some huge discounts on Cressi suits and have the 5mm for £108 + VAT - amazing price! While you're there, order an Omer Mini Laser knife (best spearo knife ever.).
While we're on the topic of comfort, make sure you don't order a cordura / nylon weight belt - always go for a nice, stretchy rubber belt - it makes a world of difference!

That's good to hear a 5mm should be sufficient. Hopefully we won't limit our time in the water to much... Understand what you mean with your custom suit, that's why I want a Cressi for now as I plan to hit the gym a bit, don't want custom now and it not fit 6 months later.

Thanks for the heads up to apnea.co.uk Broseidon. Got the suit and mini laser knife for £170, seems very reasonable... Just hope the bloody thing fits fine otherwise back to the drawing board

Cressi suits don't have the largest of shoulders so can get a bit tight round there if you are rounder shouldered.
Did you try the suit on dry? common mistake cos with a bit of slippy in it, it will twist round your arms etc to fit nicely. They often get 'wound up' on the arms/elbows as you put them on over your head so need twisting back when on or pre twisting before you pull over your head n shoulders.
If you plan to dive ALL year, one of each, a 7 and a 5. If you only want one suit, get the 7 as you can flush it to keep cool if you do manage to get too hot in the sun with no wind and no deep or long dives. You should last a good 2-4 hrs even in jan/feb 5-6deg with a 7mm and in the summer? well.... how long you got?

If you want to have one suit that will do a proper job all year around and last you for years you need a 7mm jacket and 5mm pants. They get thinner and loose insulation in 1/2 years (depending how deep and often you go). If you get a black lined opencell custom made suit you are not gonna spend a fortune, just a bit more for much more. Worth the money, if it doesn't fit right you give it back and they fix it for free (at least polo sub).
He can buy a plain black lined open-cell suit custom made of any brand and it will be inexpensive but I can only talk about the customer service of polo sub. Just giving an advise.
Hi, I'm Chris's mate Dave. I just want to introduce myself and say thanks for all the helpful info you guys have posted. I have also bought a 5mm Cressi suit off the peg and am looking forward to putting it to good use over the coming season.
I have a small 3.4m sib with a 9.9hp mercury on the back which I think will get us out to where we need to be all going well! Hope it's ok me asking a few questions over the coming weeks and months to get us off on a safe start.

It can be hand painted with all our camouflages. There are three basic models: decomposed, progress and evolution. The first two can be chosen in either green, red, brown or blue whereas the evolution is just as it is. I can send you some photos by email, no problem. Send it by PM.

I am thinking of a 5mm polo sub jacket to use in summer or a 3mm possibly as my 7mm is so warm !Don't think I can flush it to cool as its such a good fit! Any one dive round Cemaes bay area? Wife just booked a weeks holiday there! What a result! Didn't even know!

Played around that oulet with the kayak before, lots of myullet about. Can't see any problems going for a swim there, especially from a kayak.
From what I've read on WSF (World Sea Fishing Forums), the hot water attracts hundreds of tiny / undersized bass - scumbags head down there and pull out sacks of them on rod and line. I don't follow the forum but I get the feeling that a) a lot of people are getting very, very cross about it and, b) it may become a no fishing zone - or at least people are being told not to fish there.
If a spearo was seen down there filling up on tiny-weeny bass, it would be the worst press we've had since the epic Dario vs. WSF cluster f**k of 2007
