Nylon Wetsuit?

I went to a local dive shop last night to look for a .5mm suit just for a little protection/warmth when diving in warm water. On the clearance rack was a suit made of 87% nylon and 13% lycra for $20 (as opposed to $60 for the .5 mm neoprene). Being the cheap accountant that I am, the $20 suit seemed right at the time.

Anyone have experience with such a suit?

The texture, combined with the colors, makes it look like it would be a hit at a Star Trek convention. Still trying to figure out if I saved $40 or wasted $20.

It's a dive skin...

Not as warm as a .5mm or 1mm neoprene suit. But it does provide a bit of sun protection. Probably not much in the way of protection from the jellies though. Also they are good to put on before trying to put on an unlined neoprene suit as the rubber will glide over the nylon/lycra easier than over your skin.

As for the thin neoprene jobs. I have one of the Henderson Microprene suits. It is quite nice. But be warned, those thin jobs tend to stretch quite a bit when wet, so you want a good snug fit.
