Omer Cayman HF 95 double 18mm bands

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Dunlap 18mm is very good, very progressive. Some says Cressi G20 bulk rubbers are good too.

Thanks Murat, I've read a lot of good advices from you on other threads, very much appreciated!

cressi are very good and so are Picasso, who make 19mm so could be a good idea for more power...

I believe the open head of the HF only supports 18mm circular bands, maybe I could fit a 19mm with some force? For now shortening the band seem the most plausible solution! I will let you know how that went in a few days when I test it in the water!
Thanks guys!!!

Put some soap on the band and pull it through

standard 18mm bands on standard aluminum Cayman (not HF) = very powerful. I can only just load it, but I'm a wimp

look at this weekends champ grouper with yours truly, head shot, between eyes, exited between pectoral fins, stoner shot, thats probably the only reason I got it out of its cave, instead of loosing my gun (see old thread..)

I would try the standard set up 4 or 5 times before changing.

Thanks for the advice azapa, I tried the original setup for 4 weekends, let's say around 50-70 shots fired and it seemed that my friend's Cressi Comanche 75 has a better kick and the bands are way harder to load!!!
Congratulations on your catch, those are some great pics, here in the Adriatic sea the groupers we have are of a more light brown colour!
The barrel of the HF is stiffer than the Omer carbon barrels so I believe it can take the pressure!
Thanks and good luck on your next hunt!

Thanks Neljpovic. Did you loose or miss any fish due to power issues in those 4 weekends? Typically, if you have an underpowered gun, you may find this happens:
a. spear will not penetrate the fish, often stopping on the spine, could pull out of a softer fish
b. spear will drop on long range shots, making you miss

We all have good and bad days, but it's rarely the guns fault

Let us know how you get on.

If you want to see exactly what your gun does when fired do this...
Go to a pool or in the ocean on a day when the viz is real good. Set up a target with a 2l plastic bottle or anything else as discussed around the threads here and give your gun to a mate to fire while you watch from the side at a safe distance, preferably on the same level as the person with the gun and the moving spear, the target should also be set up at max range of your gun with the line. Watch the spears trajectory and movement in the water and youll soon see where the problem lies

Gread idea deepthinker, I may just do that, just have to wait till weekend! And yes i lost some fish, some medium size mullets to be exact, due to spear drop but it can also be my mistake, other than that the gun is fabulous so no complaints there!
I will post a thread to let you know how it all went
Thanks

I have done this with my little Riffe MT0. 4 meters - flat trajectory!! Even took some video to watch the spear travel. Of course the spear has not so much mass so only softer fish at that range.
My 90cm cobra has about the same range - 6.75mm shaft and 18mm band.

Neljpovic, sounds to me like your on track with the bad band theory. I have a 90cm HF and no issue with accuracy. It takes some effort to pull the last few cm to get the wishbone in. Mine is set up with a shot line connected to a bungee on the muzzle and maybe 3m of line. Mine on a missed shot will thump at the end of it's travel and stays straight.

Also are you using the reel, a breakaway or a bungee? I would think that a breakaway or a reel could effect the end of the shot if they are allowed to add drag.

Are you using the metal wishbone? This is more out of curiosity. I'm switching to dyneema, the muzzle end of my barrel is getting nicked.

Sorry to dissapoint you Fondueset but I'm not that new to spearfishing !
I have a 5m 1.6mm nylon attached to the gun and some 35m kevlar line on the reel, and I only let the reel roll if needed! That's what I meant ILDiver, the band is easy to load, and yeah I forgot to post this it is 60 cm long (came with the gun)!

hey wait a minute! 60 cm band is too long for a 95 gun. The correct size should be about 56. I think we've found the answer to your problem...

No dissapointment just trying to entertain all possibilities.
Looks like you were right in the first place!

Youre right spaghetti, I just checked some band charts in an old magazine and it says:
for 90 cm guns the band length shoul be 48-52cm
there is no length for the 95 but it says that for the 100 the band should be approx. 60cm!!!
So why in the hell did the HF 95 come with 60cm long band??? And there is more, guess what length is the spare band that I asked for the 95??? 62cm long! Don't you just love competent people in serious equipment stores!?! I guess there will be some shortening to do this weekend!
Hey guys one more question, can circular bands, such as the original Omer Power which came with the gun, be shortened??? I don't know if the translation is correct but they have a THREAD or WINDING allready on them!

If the bands have a hole in the middle, like most bands Ive seen they can be shortened. Cut the bands to the desired lenth and use a dyneema wishbone, its also softer than a metal one, so your gun shoots softer. Insert the dyneema into the bands and tie it off with a constrictor knot

Sorry for borrowing your pix from another thread guys!!!
I have the circular band as showed in the first picture and I believe you were thinking of cutting them on both sides and inserting a wishbome as showed in the second picture, bur I was wondering if I could cut them and reinsert them in the Winding as in pic.1???
