OMER pocket problems- AGAIN!

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
The Spetton pockets I had were NOT the same as my OMER pockets.

My favorite pockets of all were the Sporasub ones- which I understand are no longer made.

Jon

It goes without saying that you are talking about the new Omer Millenium footpockets. It's the old/former Omer pocket (Omer logo in circle / Valerio Grassi signature below) that was/is identical to the Spetton and Teknosport/Aquatic pocket.

The Sporasub pockets are still produced. Only the branding has changed. Before Spoarasub H.Dessault, then plain Sporasub [after the termination of the Sporasub/Dessault cooperation], now Mares.

I suppose this looks familiar

I used to have a pair of those footpockets too! I think they came on an old pair of Sporasub Radicals that I owned.

I know that OMER pockets have gone through a couple of evolutions. Even ones that looked the same would come out of the mold very differently depending upon which year they were made- some were stiffer than hell and others were softer.

It's the narrower footpocket that I like on the Sporasub for wearing with 3mm socks. Every once in a while I would come across a pair that I could get 5mm socks in, but mostly just 3mm. The OMER's i have always been able to get 5mm socks on with. The Spettons, being just a touch bigger, allowed for a slightly looser fit, and warmer toes, than the OMER's. I may have lost a bit of performance, but when the water is 2C I wasn't really interested in how deep I could go. rofl

Hey Jon, even though the sporasub footpockets are made any more. You can still get them from Dennis from 20Fathoms. I'm not aware of his exact availability but, you can always check sin you "consider "ed" them your favorite.

I've owned both Spetton and OMER pockets and they are NOT the same. They have different sizings/ rail clips/ rubber stiffness.

Jon

Hi Jon, It's been a while but I beg to differ, here are spetton, omer and aquatic tecknosport footpockets in the picture and it's not hard to see they're the same just with different brandings!

Spear4food, I love your collection. But notice that Jon was talking about the Omer Millennium footpocket. The one in your pic is the older Omer "Valerio Grassi" model, dating back to the early 90's and Made in Italy. Not the same as Omer Millennium.

PS. My own Omer Millennium fp's are now almost 7 years old and still perfectly Ok with no problems of any sort. But then I don't count as a statistic, since my Ice blades too are still Ok unlike everyone else's Ice blades...:t

I tore 3 Omer Millennium foot pockets. I'm beginning to not like them so much.

If I were repairing that footpocket, I think I might drill a small hole through at the tip of each end of the crack. It is just going to keep ripping if you leave the stress concentration in place. That is what the tip of a crack is, a stress concentration. You need to remove this region. A circular hole is called for at the very ends of the crack. Then do your bonding.

I threw this fin away over a year ago. I tried to glue it, the factory tried to glue it and Whopperhead tried to glue it. I gave up and moved on.

I'm now using a Triton Hyperfin. Some of the rubber has started to separate and this fin, but that was due to a bad batch of glue. I have since re-glued every weak point with super glue and no longer have any problems. The fin is every bit as comfortable as the Specialfin's, but with a lot more power. Actually, the hyperfin is MORE comfortable since the footpockets fit my feet better than the OMER pockets did. I used to get blisters with the OMER pockets if I was swimming hard for a long period of time. With the hyperfin I've never had a single blister.

I could wear thicker socks with he specialfin compared to my hyperfin, but I've worked around that issue by using 3mm socks inside the footpockets and 5mm socks (with the toes cut off) over the footpockets. This seems to work out well for ice diving in the winter time.

Jon
