im in the currently looking for a new speargun and ive been reserching the omer guns and they look quite good. i was wondering wich gun would be best. i usually spear blackfish and bream in a roky area. visibility is usually quite good. i would prefer an open muzzle, and it needs to be accurate and durable. a list of which ones u think r best would be great

man you cant go wrong with roballen they have an open muzzle already it should be hitting the shelves soon I have pics of it. I am not sure if the guns will be carry them, i just saw the item sold separately in a Greek store.

they hav open muzzles???!!
the only reason i didnt get the rob allen is cause of the muzzle.
the must be cumin in soon because i didn see them

Hiya

Rabitech also has an open muzzle. So does Pelaj. I haven't seen the Rob allan open muzzle, but it'll be good as well!!:D:D

For Australian conditions, i'd look at any of the railguns. Pelaj, Rabitech, RA, Edge, etc. If you're still keen on the Omer, their Cayman HF looks WICKED!!:D:D

those pelaj guns look very good, though I'll reserve judgement until I hear from some people diving with them...

Hiya

I've tested the Pelaj guns and can HIGHLY recommend them!! My dive partner, the legendary South African spearo, Tommy Botha also tested them and he also rates them very highly! VERY accurate gun!! Haven't had a chance to test them on some yellowfin tuna yet, but i'm pretty sure they'll work VERY well!!:D:D Watch this space:D:D:D

Miles is there better performance in using RA carbon railguns than regular aluminum besides the weight can you tell something about it. About the RA open muzzles i have a thread where I show pictures of what it looks like! i have to say it's better looking than anything i seen so far. a Greek Store sells them and I'm waiting for them to get it here in south Florida.

If you are shooting around rocks and holes and distance is not a factor,
get an arbalet like Picasso or Omer makes....90 centimeters simple with flopper tip..not very expensive.... for a video on this subject go to youtube.com
Enter in these words in search box>>> spearing margates
and you will
see some video about what i am talking about... BUY A EURO GUN

well if Miles recommends a gun, sure it must be a great gun.
But back to the initial question, which Omer, I can highly recommend them all.
Since you talk about hunting breams at rocky bottoms, take note that this is the typical spearfishing of Italy, and Omers are designed in Italy: this says it all.
I've used Omer XXV Gold, Omer T20 carbon mimetic, T20 Millennium, T20 allu, Excalibur carbon, Excalibur allu, Master competition, Black master, older T20, MB 30, and they ALL performed accurate, handy, manoueverable, durable and reliable. Just stay away of a gun called Omer Alluminum (yellow handle): it's not likely to last long due to galvanic corrosion of metal parts. All the other Omers are ok.
If you buy in a real-life shop (I mean: not on-line) buy the one that you prefer.
Now please let me too recommend a gun, if you have access to it: Seatec Gabbiano Open Elite 100 (open muzzle).

Honestly for a rock gun I wouldnt use an omer b/c of the thin shaft gets into everything...I use my 42" ab biller for the grouper in the rocks and its sweet b/c its got a thicker shaft and its pretty robust. Now if the fish are away from the rock and swimming around the euroguns are way better. Its just everytime I shoot a fish in a rock with my rabitech (which has a thicker shaft than omer, so the problem would be worse) it seems to shoot through the rocks and go DEEP into the hole making it a mission to retrieve my shaft.
just something to think about...

in response to the original question i echo spaghettis words..my go to gun is an excalibur carbon, of course i pimped i a bit with a track, thicker 6.75mm spear and 18mm bands.. super great gun...maybe try the new cayman HF or better yet wait for the HF2...

Hiya

I've got nothing against OMER, actually, i'm a big fan of ALL their gear!! How-ever, their weakpoint is their spears. the 6.3 or 6.5mm isn't too happy to be used amongst the rocks or on very large fish.

Considering philly is in Australia, he'll soon be moving up to larger quarry like yellowtail kingfish, big jewies/mulloway, cobia, spanish mackerel, etc. The railgun, regardless of make, simply offers the BEST gun for his local conditions.

To furthermore complicate matters, the Omer cayman hf and t20 range is ACTUALLY more expensive than a carbon railgun in Australia!! Majority of Australian divers actually use railguns, so its very effective for their conditions.

Same as here in NZ, railguns do have a big following. Most people here end up having a 100cm gun for rocks and low viz, with a 120 or so railgun for general use/kingis.

Good to hear the positive reports on the pelaj guns, I was a little worried they were all looks and no performance. Does anyone other than adrenaline stock them?

I went to a local store here and saw a couple of Omer T20's and the gun's looked very nice and at the same time fragile. Their body was thin and I got a mix feeling about them actually most of the people I dive with don't use omer products then again they tend to be expensive so the majority use cressi, ab-biller, and Im prob the only 1 who uses roballen. Miles, I have seen a couple of videos in youtube of australian divers & i seen alot of rob allen guns. What's the higher % of gun manufactures you seen these spearos use? For the record I am no way implying how much better RA guns than the rest.

Man, I've got a Omer cayman HF 75 its sweet, you can have it both with or without muzzle. Opens best, got a great field of view and well balanced. Going to get a 90 next, can't wait:friday

Actually have no idea who stocks them!! I'll try and find out from some Australian spearo's........

What's the higher % of gun manufactures you seen these spearos use?
roflroflrofl That's like asking what percentage of drivers have Fords or Chevy's!!
RA have been longer in the market, but Rabitech has pretty much caught up. That said, i PREFER Rabitech, but also have RA's and can honestly say that there is very little difference between them. Pretty much all the railguns are similar and offer similar performance!! The reason you see so many RA's on you-tube is because the few guys that make movies, use RA's!! Wayne and Anthony Judge, both very accomplished spearo's make quite a few movies from Australia and both use RA's!!
