This guy has to be one of the luckiest guys around. He appearently suffered from massive CO2 poisoning. It was only thanks to his group's safety precautions that he is still alive.

A good lesson here that there is no detail so small that it can be overlooked.

His story in his own words can be found:

A very interesting read.

DSAO,

Dear friends...

excellent reading...i enjoyed with the lots of details given by this lucky diver...this allow us to make a accurate image on gear and procedures employed. I´m very surprised by the bail out procedures ( air at 110 meters! )...this guy is REALLY lucky...this are the kind of things which make the CCR breathers risky for the most technical divers. If we read for example the article written by richard pyle ( a classical one) diving with a cis lunar electronic controled CCR ( no the navy derived MK15 CCR ) we can see this kind of operational problems associated with the mantenaince or a no carefully predive assembly.

I´m also surprised for some replies...one diver also suffered a accident ( hipercapnia) freediving in icy waters at 88m!!!

The world is a big place with a lot of crazy people.
