What is packing?

I don't know any of the jargon. I need help. My best time is around 5' 40" with absolutely no imput from people who train "scientifically" and exchange tips. I think I could hit 6 minutes or beyond with a little help.

Thanks.

jargon

Hi Johnny, welcome to DB. Man, with your numbers, you really should try some freediving, somewhere clear and deep. You would love it.

As to the terminology, spend some time reading posts on this site. Use the search function. When I started, I was too dumb to search, just went back through the old threads (they are all here) and read what looked interesting, massive information. Go slow on packing, you can hurt yourself.

thanks for the responses.

I'll go thru the search and try to find something on packing.

As far as being a beginner, you need to keep in mind, if I didn't mention it that I've been into "breath holding" since I was a kid of nine years old or so, that would be fifty years.

But I've never competed or done any "legitimate" training.

My brother told me about hyperventilating when I was maybe sixteen and that helped me hit 2 minutes plus.

I used to pracitice in the bathtub. I had a tavern in Illinois back around 1980 and I was showing off for the kids of some woman I met there and I hit 3:45.

I was around 36 then.

I probably didn't start back for around ten years. I started reading about Harry Houdini's breatholding times and 4' 16" was the best I could find so I beat that.

My five forty or so was done laying on a bed, so I might only hit five or so at my best in the water.

I need to find out if there is any activity up in the Chicago area.

The only people who hold there breath where I live are babies or people at bean eating contests.
