I know there have been a lot of threads about packing, but it would be good to know of any experiences with it. Has anyone noticed an improvement in unpacked lung volume as a result of packing? And has anyone hurt themselves by overpacking?

Hi,
good or bad, I could reach better results with packing. Also, for me it was very helpfull to use packing while diving CW (FI, ..). The benefits in theses cases are trivial, I think. :)

I haven't heard of anyone among my friend, who had hurt her-himself because of packing. I saw BO a few times because of packing too much, but this also depends on the person.
I think, we should ask Tom about the possible long term dangers of packing, because he really use very strong packing. He mentioned in an interview, that he would be examined by doctors to check, if there is no hurt in his lungs, because of his extreme packings.

If I remember correct, a DB member has already posted numbers of unpacked volume with and without pack stretching in some time frame before (hours or days, I forgot). I think it might have been Bill. Or Don, but I'm really straining my brain here.
I don't know if it changes the unpacked volume permanently, but for a reasonable time afterwards I guess it's a fact.
My unmeasured assessment says so as well.

Am curious about the long term affects as well.
