PB dynamic update

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 90 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Try to learn the monokick with bifins first. I think you will benefit from this since you will get the balance thing going and such. There is a lot to learn practicing the monofin with bifins, and i think it is the smart way to go. Starting off with a fin that is to heavy or advanced can play tricks with and ruin your technique which may be hard to correct later on.

I would suggest to get a monofin with an angle. It is not everything, but i prefer it anyway. As for having one fin for constant and one for dynamic, it all depends on your needs. I think it is smarter to start off with a fin that can go for both, but i do not think you will find one that is perfect for both if you are going advanced. Maybe a fin that will be good, but not perfect. However, as long as you do not really know how monokicking feels like i think the way to go is:
monokicking with bifins ----> getting a less advanced fin ---> move upwards depending on need.

Good luck!

I am using Omer Millennium Ice fins at the moment (borrowed from kman) until my stereo fins arrive hopefully by the end of this week (bloody customs) I bought them through kman who is a rep for leaderfins and you can contact him via www.monofin.co.nz - they have a good selection of fins and mono's. Divertodd...sorry to hear your night at the pool didn't go as planned but hey there is no hurry right - i'm getting ahead by a couple of metres each time and that feels good to me - good luck for when you next attempt it though.

Yeah, that's how I see it...we all have a bad night now and then. When I do dynamics, I always dolphin kick. During my course, I was having trouble with a traditional bi fin kick to descend, but when Kirk saw I was always using a dolphin kick to ascend, he told me it was pretty good, and to let him see me swim down using the dolphin kick. I did, and when I came back up, he said "Dolphin kick. DEFINATELY dolphin kick!" When Kirk Krack tells you to dolphin kick, you DOLPHIN KICK! Heh heh. Seriously, though, I've always had a good dolphin kick, so I guess maybe I had a head start on dynamic! :D Besides, I just love how it FEELS when I get into the groove of a smooth dolphin kick...I'm just SOARING across the pool, even though I'm not even kicking fast. Just...undulating....

Hello fellows,
I just started active practice of dynamic apnea. I was wondering if any of you can give me any suggestions on how to move more efficiently, using less oxygen and energy while under water. I am not using fins and it seem to me that I am not moving properly. I know I have enough lung capacity, but the inappropriate movement just decreases my time under eater.
Thank you!

Sachodrag- I am doing the same thing. Do the frog kick as divertodd said. (start with arms out in front push off the wall, glide, bring them to your sides, glide, bend your knees and spread them apart then pull them together while putting your arms back infront of you, glide, repeat)

Ive been doing it for about a month at the pool and Ive inproved alot. I started only going about 15meters now im up to 50.

Good luck and train with a buddy!

Thank you guys, I have been doing the things you said, but I just had the feeling that it is not efficient. I guess I will continue my trainings, I hope I get as good results as yours joe123321.

Aquagurl- K brought thoses fins to the last major pool comp, Impressive looking for sure, Needs foot pockets made out of the same material, that would turn heads even more!BTW Got a fin on order via K, late last month.

DiverTodd- I learnt the dolpfin style when I started UW hockey, most the players that use that style, generally are way faster, feels awesome, more natural.

I know what you mean (Sachodrag). Having come from a non-swimming background, my no fins is the poorest out of all pool events. I found I was stalling once I did the kick, just too little forward movement.

I'd recommend.
Weighting yourself correctly. This Extra weight makes a huge difference to you glide, adds to your momentum. You may already be?
Wetsuit with smoothskin, eg tri-suit / orca. Reduce friction, an add more weight, thus increase momentum.*

Practising the kick just using a flutter board.Takes time. But will help get the legs kicking in synch and you can focus on that area more. I've noticed an improvement.*

*all advice given to me from a top no-fins swimmer, and taken on board, with
noticeable improvement.Well I'm looking less like a goat trying no-fins anyway, so I'm getting there.

Video clip here:
Glenn Venghaus - Freediver
-video downloads section:
*Stig Aavall Severinsen's 166m No-fins (8.8meg Zip file.)

Has underwater view too.Gives you an idea how important the glide is.

Probably alot of other good clips on the Net.I always like watching different styles and techniques, gear setups, alot
you can pick up simply watching, even seeing different exiting techniques,eg how they support themselves
to maintain the cleanest exit possible can help, easly overlooked but without a solid exit, you'll get nothing on the board.

Kiwi Gee ... I was at the last competition that you mention, it was at the Naenae Pool back in August last year (was there to support my workmate/training buddy K. I was really just a spectator at that point, i was doing 25 metres dynamics but it was awesome to go along and actually watch everybody and their different styles and to see what was involved. My stereo fins from K arrived on Friday so i can't wait to get in the pool and try those out.

Great , looking forward to hearing how it goes with your new fins aqua.

Hopefully you decide to be on the other side of the fence so to speak, and have a crack at a competition.I'd recommend it for your experiance and you'd mature more as a diver.
-Plan out your warm-up, literally into the seconds
-More focused a target ie 1 dive, 1 chance....no pressure there...
-Time management ....no good missing your top time., or been causal to arrive.
-Stress under pressure...I've been more stressed going through making sure my partners warm-up is running on time , rather than my own dive!

Getting slighty off topic there - sugar drinks eh...

Hey Diver Todd,You hit that 75 mark yet? I went for training tonight and gained about 6 metres to a new PB of 66 metres. Maybe it was my new fins, they are fibreglass stereo fins from Monofins - Home Page - they feel great on - the omer foot pockets on them are alot softer than on the milliniem ice and overall fit me better too. I am soooo happy with my progress so far - all in all it's been a hell of an awesome day.

Hi Aquagurl,

Haven't hit it yet, but I will (right now my "average" has bumped up from 50m to 65m). We were hit with a major snowstorm, so I wasn't able to go to the pool last night. Just have to occupy myself with tolerance tables, I guess. Ack.

Todd

Havent been able to go to the pool for about a week, Got a little behind on my training. Im going to start up an official apnea walk training program for myself because Ive just been doing them When Im in the mood or have some time. I Shall post tommorow night with my results from my swim, who knows If Im feeling "it" I might go for a pb.
