Perch Spearing South Milwaukee Saturday?

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
FYI Jon,

The big perch just moved in to my area of Lake Michigan as well. I had noticed that Milwaukee was doing a lot better than down here, but the past two days have been fantastic perching.

Brian- your in the Kenosha area? where abouts do you dive- I'm thinking of coming down there on Wed/Thurs and maybe Friday.

Heading to North Beach in Racine with the family - Anyone know if there is a "break wall" there? I'll be out looking for Perch.

BTW- I really don't understand why some non-spearers get so hyped up about us spearo's. When AND IF they see thirty guys lined up at each launch (like fishermen) with spearguns and polespears in hand then MAYBE they'd have something to worry about. I don't see that happening.....ever.

I will post any results.

LATER THAT DAY...

My one year old son was crabby (possibly chicken pox!) so my wife & him stayed home...I ended up going to Moose lake with a friend & just worked on freediving mostly - I did however see some pretty nice gills & a few very big bass - They were cool. I touched a big northern on the head...Also I caught a HUGE mudpuppy and stuck it in my friends shorts!!!! LMAO!!!!Atleast he thought it was funny too!!! Not the mudpuppy...He was probably pretty pissed!

Vis was only 5-6 ft but it did seem to be a little clearer at about 20 ft.

All the big fish were deep.

Fun in the sun!

I had my father-in-law check with some of the higher up's who are "in the know" about these kinds of things. He works quite closely with the University and the DNR as a back-up captain on their research vessel. Here's the reply he got from both the university and the local DNR:

And spear fishing for pan or forage fish (such as perch) is legal with a fishing license (5 per day limit), no big game fish, and restricted in certain cities about having a weapon. I'm told south of Milwaukee at Oklahoma Avenue is good around the jetties and rocks. And you have to be a good shot or lots of swimming after spears.

All of which means I'm in as soon as I get a free weekend to shoot some fish with you! IS anyone going to be hitting that area this weekend? I may be in Milwaukee this weekend, otherwise I will have to wait until September to give it a shot. ;)

This is going to be fun.:)

I'd be up for it possibly...Anyone who wanted to "show up" could come really. I only have a canoe but it gets me where I need to go. I'd LOVE to have a DIVEBOAT...Someday maybe! Message me...By mid morning the boat "fishermen" are usually done. Weekdays are best though & I'm good at getting Fridays off!- ...Racine & Kenosha can be done from shore.

The spot your talking about could be worth exploring...it too would be from shore.:)

Visibility in Kenosha on Friday was acceptable to good for this time of year. But then yesterday (Saturday) and today (Sunday) visibility was zero.

Glad to hear you'll be joing us, Jon! It's a great time!

I went on Thurs with my b-i-l and we only saw a couple of perch and didn't get any. The water was very warm, but vis was ok. Hopefully the weather changes here will improve things. We are going to try tomorrow morning everywhere and won't stop until we have our 5 perch each.

Anyone know if there are perch in Egg Harbor, Door County? I'll be up there 8/25 if anyone wants to join...I have a thread started.

Is anyone going to go out spearing off of South Shore this Sunday???

Looks like we'll be in town all weekend and there's no charter going out Sunday so I could be talked into bringing a kayak along and do some spearing.

Sunday is the only day that woks- Saturday is booked with family commitments.

Jon

I'd USUALLY be up for it....But my family is leaving for South Africa on the 11th. They'll be gone for a month and a half...I'm trying to spend as much time as possible with them, especially that close to thier leaving. I wish I could go but I have to keep the money rollin' if you know what I mean - I also have NO ONE else competent enough to RUN my business for a few weeks. Thats why I take long weekends or a day off midweek all of the time.

But hey....When the family is gone I plan on doing ALOT of freediving/spearing...hopefully not always alone. Hopefully we can hook up sometime out by South Shore.

I was just there the other day. Could not find the bigger perch - However the carp were thick...As well there were alot of huge smallies....Vis sucked until down 20.

Let us know how you do if you go out solo or otherwise!

My Mom in law has already procured a dive knife for me - I'm also trying to see if my wife can bring me back a 60cm Rabitech Stealth!!!!!
