Pete Crawford passed away in the early hours of this morning.

Sad news, and a sad day for spearfishing, Pete was a legend and inspired so many.

I never got to meet him but read a lot about his diving adventures and he could still show many of us a thing or two. Some of his catches were just amazing and the photo of him with Neale with the Eddystone in the back ground sums it all up. Great photo by Nick. Rest in peace great man.

Rest in peace and dive easy......... , I never new the man but when I read about the greats of that generation from around the world it amazes me........ we are merely standing on the shoulders of giants, the true pioneers, real watermen.

I like so many other spearos got to know Pete and had the pleasure to spend some time with him diving and socializing.

Sad news indeed. I heard somebody else comment recently that this seems to be a particularly bad year for people dying. For some reason I have found myself talking of him several times this year. I bumped into him once (the photo above confirms it), at Thurlestone - I'd turned up late in the day with my family to check conditions and he was coming out at the end of a spearfishing competition (he'd caught several good size pollock that day) and was sorting his gear out next to us. I didn't realize who it was at the time but it dawned on me later who it might be. 13 times British Champion - how many people can make that claim, in any activity?
