Picasso 2009

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
It's great to see the innovation going on at Picasso.

What about some details on all this new stuff?

I am in touch with Picasso´s manager and products will get released in the end of April, the specs will be released then as well.

Best regards

I'm sorry but the entire product range looks like copies of OMER product!

-Spider handle same style as CAYMAN even has the same lip to keep the line away from the bridle location as on a cayman handle!
- loading pad on handle same shape as cayman even...
- Spider gun same as Cayman HF even has name and model marked the same way!
- Spider carbon same as cayman carbon
- Spider Aussie copy of the recently released Australian series CAYMAN
- knives are from a third party (bar tigra)
- fibreglas fins look exactly like Pegaso from OMER same blade shape rail system etc
- CARBON blades look same shape rail system as OMER REKORD III (latest model)
- Wetsuits look just like Riffe's new camo suits
- Picasso flow and invisible flow look like copies of ZOOM and Zoom clear from OMER
- Ultra stretch gloves are just Cressi spyder glove copies.
- Deep mask generic mask already available through about 8 other manufacturers (exactly the same)

i'm sorry but a litte very surprised to see a brand like Picasso resort to copying the competition. particularly with their history in spearfishing i would have expected more.

then again i guess imitation is the most senscere from of flattery.

The muzel on the Aussie is a complete copy of rob allen.......

.......BUT........

Wel don for them with all there new pruducts.

The wet suit looks completely different to riff. Paten, cut and colour and padding all completely different.

Maybe i went a bit far with the wetsuit but there is definetly Riffe insperation especially in the Blue camo very similar tones and style. and yes the muzzle is the same as:

- RA
- Orca
- Cressi Mohawk
- Rabitech
- Freedivers
- Torelli
- Pescau
so like i said complete lack of originality.

Quote from Catalogue
"the High quality, durability and INNOVATIONS of the products, made picasso the most awarded brand in the world" "Champions like Jose Amengual, Pedro Carbonell, Jose Vina, Alberto March and Rui torres were all 'born' with picasso equipment."
"all his experience to the contiued research of the best equipment a spearfisherman can find... and ONLY picasso can offer"

glad to see they have such high credentials (Pedro Carbonell Beuchat last time i checked)

i also like the last section where they are "researching the best equipment a spearfisherman can find" yep their sure researching hard...in the OMER catalogue.

Careful there DD. My guess is that both companies are buying the same new stuff from the same Chinese manufacturer. ; o

maybe the case but the designs are original OMER e.g cayman beeen arounf for the past couple of years.

on a more positive note i really like all the new gear
the strong reel looks very nice, i also like the reef wetsuit and the new camo in general

the stuff may be similar to omer but if it's good why make something that's not as good

The spider Aussie band setup and muzzle looks just like my RA sniper and there stretch gloves look a hell of a lot like my cressi gloves but I have to admit it all looks great.

The way I see it, they've taken the best bits of all the guns out there and made it better. I will be getting myself some there gear this year with out a doubt

I Like the quick change dyneema thingies!

Mako and SCUBAsWorld has them in stainless.

MAKO Spearguns - Store

Wishbones - ScubasWorld

I have the SS inserts that push directly into the band and then tie the dyneema to, for the wishbone/obus. Josh at Neptonics makes a dyneema wishbone/obus that inserts with a tool. http://www.neptonicsystems.com/insertion%20tool.htm

I thought that your post was about inserts that you tie the dyneema to. I see now that the Picasso inserts may be a polymer. I will try some out.

OK thanks but I feel one of the benefits of using dyneema is to get away from metal?
For me dyneema is pretty new, last 5 years maybe, before that I used metal wishbone as did the all the other spearos I knew however I now much prefer the string stuff!
Much quieter & less likely to scratch my guns, cheaper & easier to replace, I guess it is a bit petty but I just think plastic quick change thingies would suit me better.

The other SA-style railguns all use similar (possibly the same) bulk rubber muzzle designs -- BUT it is a very good design IMHO, 10cm more rubber than a typical eurogun muzzle, with rubbers correctly aligned with spear. I think it's good that a euro-brand* is picking up a good idea. Who knows, 2 years from now maybe they'll even cotton onto Dyneema wishbones

*Are their products, especially the alleged "copies", made in China or Taiwan by any chance?

BTW SA railgun maker Orcas do a plastic/polymer version of tie-in wishbone inserts & Rabitech offer metal ones (perhaps harder wearing but unnecessary weight in a critical position?). Pastor used a home made design which involved a round bead (or knot or Rob Allen style wishbone toggle off an old wishbone) with a short, thick Dyneema loop. You'd then tie your (possibly thinner) Dyneema wishbone to the thick Dyneema loop at both ends of the rubber.

e.g.

Oh, I see what you mean - you mean at the other end of the rubbers:

Is there a screw-in Dyneema wishbone for Omer's 18mm rubbers (I guess one would need to profile, smooth and polish the wishbone grooves on the spear too )?
