Pipin Responds to ESPN Film and Announces New Dives

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Pippin - pushing the boundaries of breath hold again, maybe this time he will cross the boundary himself...

I honestly don't think it's possible without massive DCS.

If he makes it to the 5th dive, he'll likely end up in a hyperbaric and debilitated for life.

Even IF I had his breath hold and equalization skills, I wouldn't attempt it even IF there was a hyperbaric chamber ON the boat.

If he CAN pull it off, he may remain relevant in freediving, otherwise he will remain a footnote / asterisk IMHO.

I just hope no lives are risked (other than his own) in the process and I hope he survives.

If he doesn't attempt it... It's just another Pipin PR stunt.

Apnea does not need any more blights / incidents on it's record.

What can we learn from 5 NL dives in 30 minutes?

Is he going to do the Murat - exhale - approach? - I think it's the only way he may survive the 5 NL dives.

I'm interested in seeing the missing footage demonstrating somebody else's fatal mistake. But I'm not holding my breath for that one.

That's the only thing that makes it interesting, would like to see how he goes with DCS. Well actually I'd rather not see how he goes with DCS, but since he's going to do it anyway....

The dives themselves are hardly a challenge. 2:00 static, 4:00 rest, 2:00 static etc.

I havent read up on the dives but are they moonitored all the wayover each dive or is it just to see if he avoids dcs. The espn thing did raise a doubt in my mind. Before it I thought 100% premeditated. Then after seeing the 90m bounce on air I'm not so sure. That was a risky move in anybodys eyes so would be more inclined to think the dramatic rescue senario. Would also wonder about the footage on the day and why it has never been mentioned till now if it throws new light on the situation.

Actually it works out to 30' if you have 2:00 dive times and 5:00 rests between them.
Yawn, why doesn't he do 10 x 100m in half an hour?

I doubt that any serious diving operator would help him in Cabo with his decompresion sicknness attempt....

Do I read it right in the video's comment that he's aiming for nearly 700 ft in 2014 ?

In 2014 I will attempt to break the No Limits Diving world record by diving nearly 700 feet beneath the ocean in honor of my late wife, Audrey Mestre. In preparation for my record breaking dive, scientists and medical experts will travel with me to Cabo San Lucas later this year to study my attempt to make five consecutive breath-hold dives below 100 meters in 30 minutes or less—another world record. And I will use their analysis of the data gathered during this 3 week scientific and training expedition to design the training program for my final No Limits record breaking dive next year.

700ft is 213,36m, a few cm short of Herbert Nitch's WR...

Yes I'm sure he intends to claim the WR from Herbert.

Why stop 64cm short? ;)
