Pneumatic Speargun Spear Length?

Hello,
I have a question about spear length. I own a Salvimar Krypsis 75 with a “regular” spear length of 870 mm. I have access to 7 mm discounted spears (Sigalsub Ghost, made for pneumatic guns) that are 940 mm long. Am I able to use this length on my gun, if not what are the guidelines for a replacement or spare spears?

I’ve had a similar setup with my speargun. Trying out a longer spear like the 940 mm might not be the best move for your Krypsis 75. In my experience, going longer can mess with accuracy and the gun’s balance. I’d stick to the recommended length or double-check with the manufacturer to make sure it’ll work well with your setup. If you really want to try it, just make sure it fits and doesn’t interfere with the gun’s action.

If you have access to discounted quality spears (17-4ph, tempered) - get to learn (unless you already know how) to thread them. You have to shorten them to match your gun at the butt end (the one that goes into trigger mechanism) and create an M6-1.0 thread to screw-on the butt. For that you need a high quality M6-1.0 HSS die but it is a worthwhile investment. As far as the length - you got the perfect answer - your gun in the water must be weighted perfectly so go with the original length. Another point - if your spear is a "tahitian" style - no screw on tip in the front - it will shorten over time after sharpening. So you can cat off the tip, put another M6 -1.0 thread on the front above the flopper and screw on sharp tips that are easily replaceable.

Taken into account your above reasoning, I realize I made a mistake. The Salvimar spear-length, including the Tahitian tip is not 870 but almost 900mm, so the difference between the Salvimar and the Ghost is only 4 cm.

Now looking at all the shafts I can see that it all depends on the length of the screw-on tip, because for example attaching a multi-prong on a standard Salvimar shaft exceeds the 940mm by a large margin, a longer tip such as a slip tip would do the same thing….

I guess the only way to really know if the shaft works with the gun, put the gun in the water and watch how it balances, exactly what you told me previously.
