Sorry Sara, it is really far from the traditional bond series.

Well, when you say traditional you mean something different to the early Connery ones which from a purist point of view could be said to be classical. There are really two polar opposite Bonds, films which focus on character and non-stupid action and the others which are flashy over the top gadget laden with hollowed-out volcano lairs. I'm not sure they can be compared.

I saw Casino Royale yesterday and thought it was excellent, well worth a look. It was a refreshing change to see straight Bond, but I do like Q and some of his gadgets.

anyone find it odd that they chose an actor with ties to Anti-gun activism to protray a spy/hitman?

haven't seen it yet.....

It isnt out in Australia yet... we have to wait until Dec 7th. But I am definately looking forward to it!

Its a prequel is it not?

I saw it yesterday it was ok but it was nothing like the over 007 movies as someone else said it is the first 007 like batman begins. No gadgets and little action. 5/10

Niven was great in many roles. Pity he didn't make more films. It's a pity they no longer show his version of "Around the World in 80 days" on TV.

Flemming's choice for Bond was Richard Todd, he would have been excellent. But Connery brought something extra to the character, Bond+.

Recently somebody on the BBC quipped that Sean Connery wasn't "English enough" to play Bond. As an Englishman, I think he was fine. Any how, the Bond character is Scottish - his father is Scottish, his Aunt is Scottish, after being sent down from Eton, Bond is educated at Fettes College in Scotland.

It's said that Scotsmen these days lower themselves and even grovel to work for MI6, MI5 or some other mass mind control operation. ah it's like Scotland was never independent.

I find that hard to believe, not least because almost all of the senior positions in government for 12 of the past 15 years were held by Scottish ministers and their hangers on. However, the security agencies seem focused on recruiting Asians and arabic speakers, because of the various troubles in the Middle East, Pakistan, etc..

The Scottish Independence Party currently seem to be doing a better job looking after the Scottish electorate than the British Government is doing looking after British electorate. But Scotland has been independent several times in the past and each time it has ended very badly. Often with continental "allies" abandoning them. The last time, bankrupted by their own empire plans in South America, they were bailed out by the rest of the Union in exchange for joining the Union - Britain effectively paid Scotland to join the Union. Anyhow Britain was governed by Scottish Royalty since James 1, and Anglo-Saxon royalty married into Scottish Royalty after the Norman Conquest in 1066 ("Saint" Margaret of Scotland, "Margaret was the mother of three kings of Scotland and a queen consort of England."). We have several Scots in our tiny village, and there is even a Burns night celebration each year now. The Scots don't need independence, they have already conquered Britain it seems.

LoL nice one Mr. X!

Well I tell you I'm not into any bigotry anymore and I regard 'nationalism' as a form thereof. So the jab at the actor was a bit for my cynical amusement :) On the work of secret services, what we see in the Bond series is nearly total fiction. But in a way they do sell the noble MI6, Queen and country, as the last help for the people against lone wolf maniacs who like to dominate and or kill the world (Moonraker). It's well known secret service people are within the media world. What you think is VERY MUCH their business. It's how the illustrious 'they' stay in power.

ps I really enjoy your little history lecture!

Of course Niven was Scottish too, furthermore he was far more a real life Bond than any of the others, being involved in British intelligence during the Second world war & ultimately becoming a colonel in the commandos!

There are 4000 Scots in Guernsey & I believe over 6k in Jersey!!

Thinking about that I would never have guessed there could be so many Scots on Jersey/ Guernsey - and I see Guernsey even has its very own 'Guernsey Tartan Army'. Rather bizarre !
