Portugal license

Hello all,

I'm visiting Portugal for a week with my family in May, I hope I'll get a day in the water and as such will pack a speargun. How does one go about getting the correct license in advance in order to do this legally? Also is there an online resource details what species are allowed to be shot?

If you have a Portugese ID card (and you can read Portugese) you can get a license at any ATM in Portugal. You can find more info here:

I haven't received a reply yet. My Portugese is a bit rusty, but it seems like starting this year you can get a license via email.

FWIW the last few years I've gone spearing in Algarve for 3 weeks and didn't see the maritime police once, YMMV.

hello,

I went to Portugal this september, and for non portugese spearfishers, there is a specific way to get the licence:
Impossible to get it from multibanco ATM for a "stranger", the only portugese people can get it.
You have to go to a delegação regional de agricultura e pescas around your trip destination, with cash and identity card. The spearfishing licence is available for the whole Portugal (not the fishing licence, because regionalized), I've paid 10 € for a 1-month-licence, and waited 10 minutes before getting the holy grail.
