Production of lateral edge add ons

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
The fins aren't just used for thrusting the body forward in a torpedo fashion, we use our fins for the body's angle, yawl, pitch, stopping, bending or torso, etc.

The sideways motion of the blade that we all use considerably but fail to notice. The rails double the resistance of the fins lateral motion.

I was going to say it is like cutting a steak with the wrong side of the knife, but that would be too inaccurate and exaggerated.

No hay broncas: se nota que todos en realidad siguen teniendo las mejores intenciones. Gracias, Shane y Jim.

I think you made a big point, Jim. It could be worth experimenting if it's not too expensive.

My take is that the slippage on my cressi's sometimes annoys me (my esclapez are actually fine) and I am not too much into manouvering. Although manouvering could create resistance noise which could scare off fish.

I still have some thinking to do but I am leaning towards trying them. If so, should I contact Mark or go for Shane's contact?

All the best,

Jorge

Maybe it means I should move into carbon or fiber but I am still not convinced of what purchase that would mean. It's a bigger investment so maybe I ll try this reversible experiment first.

Jorge,

Now I'm wondering if the edge will cause any additional vibrations (micro turbulance) in the water to signal the fish? Hmmmm, I don't know. Probably far less than swinging a gun around.

Contact Mark for fin dynamics and advice/opinions on modifying your fins,

Contact Shane for the product info for your experiment,

Contact me in three weeks after I meet up with Martin Stepanek and Kirk Krack, for advice on the next step up for great fins.

Good luck,

Jim

P.S. Don't do anything you can't undo, lest you ruin a perfectly good pair of long blades!

Man this is fun! ........ I wish the three of us were all in the same area so we really mess with these fins together. :)

Even though I lack faith in a positive outcome from the experiment, I kind of want to try it myself as well. I have an old pair of the blue 2000LF that I never use because they are too soft. They are sooooo soft that the improvement in stiffness and thrusting may acually outway the degradation of the manuverability.

Shane, just out of curiosity, do you have to return the Ice fins?

I think that you will be surprised of the fins that Martin uses.

You should tell us after the course, Good Luck and enjoy it, is really great.

Cheers

Why do I get the funny feeling they will be leaderfins!!!! rofl rofl

Jim,

No in fact he uses Specialfins monofins, but I told you that because he is a really strong diver.

You will enjoy that clinic a lot.

Cheers

Ivan

Hey everyone. I have a pair of C4's and while I really like them I cut the rails off since I do not like not being able to scull and it felt just not right. I do like the smaller rails on other fins that still vectors thrust minimally towards the tips. Check out the matrix blades and the like. Anyone know where you can get those rails?

Also, even with rails you can still scull on the surface. You just need to rotate your ankles more to "cup" the water and push it. Just takes some practice. Shoots and mahalos for any answers.
