Hi there,

Probably everybody here knows that your performance in Static gets better during a few warm ups and the best performance is usually about the 5th attempt. At least for me it is.
Can someone please explain this phenomenon ??

Fred

Static Progression

Why do you get better after each static?

1. The acidity of the first static causes the kidney to create more bicarbonate, so once you start breathing your blood is now more alkaline than before, with a greater buffering capacity
2. The acidity and/or contractions cause the spleen to shrink, releasing more red blood cells, allowing you to store more oxygen
3. The general sympathetic stimulation caused by the acidity causes the metabolic rate to drop in general, forcing your body into an oxygen conserving mode, shutting down non-essential functions etc...

Once those adaptations have reached their limit, you stop getting better, and you probably get worse from acculumated CO2 and hypoxic byproducts...

Slightly got something to do with this.. how hard one have to train to achieve performance level where he can dive with times like 3min and more? Is IHT good for this? (even best?)

book deal in the works?

Eric Fattah,

When are you going to write a book? It could be called the "Encyclopedia of freediving". PADI has one, IANTD has one. I think that you should write one. I know that I would buy a copy!

Thanks for all of the info.

Fattah Book

Hi,

If you were to go through the material that Eric Fattah has already written, all one would need is a good editor. Places to look: Deeper Blue, FDL, CAFA sites. I agree, I'd buy one for sure!
