Recommend me a 120cm gun?

im about to get my first speargun and been thinking of the Rob Allen Carbon Speargun type zulu (bluecammo) 120 cm long, 7.5mm shaft and dual 16 mm bands. would this setup be recommended for reef/deep blue fishing, in tropical/cold waters and catch smaller to larger fishes? with a extra thicker band, 16+20mm for bigger fish and singel 20mm band for the smaller ones? might get the reel line. im gonna be traveling so i need it to be lightweight.

what do u guys think?

I recommend a Caranx with single 20mm rubber. this will cover most fish you'll ever encounter. best all round solution

When I buy a new gun in the summer I'll be getting the 110cm Rob Allen Carbon gun fixed with an Alemanni rollerhead, for open water.

Well, I guess I'll be experimenting a lot on setups etc

First is price. Second durability.
No question carbon is lighter, stiffer, yada yada yada – and if could afford the extra I would prefer it. However, dropping a weightbelt or stepping on could break it. And don't get me started on overseas travel.
Weight doesn't play a role for me once in the water either, and I've never heard of a carbon fibre gun being in service for over 15 years… aluminium yes.
My mate has 4 guns - 2 alu and 2 carbon. If he's sure he's on his way with a good team, he prefers the carbon guns. If he thinks they could suffer he uses aluminium. I guess it comes down to what you can afford.

I wouldn't use twin 20mm bands, as that will be hard work loading, very in accurate with that power and you run the risk of bending/snapping your gun. Most people use twin 16mm bands with a 7mm or 7.5mm spear

that's right - your best call is to leave a gun as it comes from the shop. The companies invest a lot of R&D to make sure you get the best bang for your buck. 2x20mm would overpower your gun quite a bit (imagine the end of the spear trying to overtake the tip) = wobbly and loss of accuracy.
The RA rail guns come with 6.5 spear, single 16mm (Sparid I think), 7mm spear single 20mm (Caranx) and 7.5mm spear double 16mm (tuna). if you want a 120
go with either single 18 or 20 or if double, 16mm. my 2 cent

I don't know how often you're out there, if you prefer open water over reef, etc. but you mentioned you want to go for reef species too. Well, I know diver that landed 40kg beasts with a 100 "Frankenstein-gun" but all agree that anything longer than 120 is annoying around the reef. I'm trying to say that you'll most likely land more with a good, reliable short gun than with the jackhammer you bought for the pelagics…

The RA 120 with twin 16mm bands is like a canon u will not need a 20mm band as well and it will probably effect the accuracy of the gun and cause a lot of recoil.

Agree thinner bands than 20 if you are doubling up
