relaxation techniques

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 90 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Have fun! Enjoy the water and don't push yourself. Anxiety = tension, enjoyment brings body awareness and with it release of tension!

Also:
- Slow the breathing to slow the metabolism
- Extend the duration of the outbreath to, say, twice the duration of the inbreath to extend the duration of vagus nerve activation, further reducing metabolic rate.

BUT be aware that both of these can constitute hyperventilation - bad news as you will see from a quick search of the forum!

- Mentally scan the body head to toe to become AWARE of residual tension. Tension can easily build up quite severly before we become consciously aware of it. Don't force it - ALLOW tension and it will naturally release.
- Practice yoga regularly to increase body awareness and, of course, stretch out tensions.

There are some good exercises in Breatheology.
I also favour autogenic relaxation in the pool in statics. Also, making sure your head just drops down in the water, letting all the tension go so you are not using energy trying to keep it in a certain place.
Any relaxation exercises done on land will help u learn to be more relaxed and go to that relaxed place in your dives. Also will be good for general relaxation and wellbeing.

most important for me is controlling how I think when I am doing well, if your mind wonders you can often get anxiety, I try to keep calm by thinking of a melodious rhythm or song and focusing on it... that's if your in a pool... otherwise just look at the wildlife and scenery.

Also, move very slowly

Maybe it is gonna sound a bit bizzare but I used to chat with someone that I know, especially on the subject that you got different opinions. You can imagine the case in the court being the advocate defending a criminal, you can interview some celebrities, you can even have a chat with God. Use your imagination. Look into yourself.
