Lets face it. There is not a lot of literature out there about freedive training. I mean real scientific research other than stimulation of the mamalian dive reflex....I know all about that. Is there any literature or studies out there that anyone knows of addressing resistance training (weight training) as it pertains to apnea/freediving. Anecdotal references are not unwelcome but I would like to see real science concerning the issue.

Hi Hogphish,

I was just reading about this in the manual of freediving book...

If I understand it correctly, it seems to suggest more of a lactic acid resistance kind of training. (lighter weights with more reps)

If that's true, does make sense as well since I remember having difficulties swimming in the last few seconds before I surface due to the lactic acid accumulation especially in my legs (almost numb feeling).

Unilateral metabolic resistance training also helps as it promotes better muscle stretching while performing the reps and full body coordination. Add up a superset and u can also train your Vo2 max tolerance. examples of these kind of training are Alternating DB chest presses superset with single leg split squats...

I hope this is something you are looking for, just my humble opinion... :)
