Hi, I just bought a RA 90cm gun, but the rubber is perished, there are some salt in the trigger mech. The orginal rubber is 20mm, and 35 cm long (on 1 side)

I'd like to change the rubber to a 16mm but dont know how long should i get. ( owned an omer 90 but had to change 16mm rubbers coz the 18mm that came with it was so hard to load)

I also would like to strip it apart, ie the trigger mech n give it a good clean. but i haven't done it b4, are there anything that i should know b4 unscrew it? Cheerios.

Hi 3Vu, this would have made a good new thread.

I don't think you need to unscrew anything to clean the trigger mech, you can just wash it through with fresh water, or if you really feel you must dismantle it (you probably don't need to), I suggest that you see my thread on RA trigger mechs. If I recall correctly, you just need to push a couple of plastic rods out and the mech. cassette will pull out - very neat.

RA & Rabitech both publish tables showing how much rubber to use, for a given barrel length and rubber thickness, links and images exist in several threads on this forum already - try using the search facilities above to locate them (I'm rushed for time currently, sorry). I think 16mm is a good choice for the RA90. My came with 16mm which was great, I "upgraded" to 20mm and it took 2 or 3 years before it became comfortable to load. The RA tables show a length, just use that. I think the Rabitech table show a hard & soft length options. Cut it a bit longer if you like, as loading has been a problem for you, that will make it easier to load (less distance to pull and more rubber that can stretch), you can always cut it down later as you get used to it and/or the rubber ages and weakens, and perishing is usually worse at the ends so cutting a bit off either end will freshen up the ends too.

Hi Mr X,

I got the pin out, but could lift the trigger mech out. i used a screw driver to lift the end where uload up, but the other end was stuck and i did't want to force it open. so i prayed it with wd40 and soaked it in the bucket of water. i hope that would b fine.
Also site on roballen.co.za didn't show any length of 16mm rubber to 90cm gun (well i couldnt' find any for any gun) Can you send me the site if u know pls. Ta

I'm working from home today, so I just looked at my RA90 & I have my old trigger mechanism on the table next to me. I can confirm that there is indeed only one plastic rod holding the mechanism in. Heat - in this case soaking in warm/hot water - is usually good for loosening things up (remember the old metal ball through a smaller metal ring experiment/trick from school?), and should help dissolve any salt. All of the light-grey plastic, including the trigger and line release, are part of the mechanism - perhaps you can get some purchase on them. If you resort to using a drift of any kind, I suggest something soft like wood, rather metal.

Sweet, thanks for the chart, ummm errrr i dont remember much about science in school but yeah hot water would work better than cold water damn i didn't think of that, i'll dunk it in hot water again Thanks heaps.
