Hallo!
My name is Marco and I not speak english very well (I’m sorry for my mistakes). I’m an emergency nurse in Rome (Italy) and I like deep freediving. I’m doing a research on ipossic syncope (I’m not sure if it’s the correct word in english). There’s not many articles in scientific litterature, particularly on the first aid in this situations. There’s not commons protocols for normal people (not doctors and paramedics) who see these events, like the BLS’s procedures for example. I would to know if someone of you, have informations about this or about directs experiences of syncope. Any information, will help me for my study. You’ll can send me a e-mail on this address: ciucio_2@yahoo.it
Thank you very much!!!

Episodic Syncope.....

Hi M@rco, and welcome to a great resource of information about all things pertaining to freediving!

I'm a nurse as well, and there is a lot of specialized terminology that pertains to freediving.

I think it would help you to use the 'search' option at the top of the screen and look up the phrase: Shallow Water Blackout. This may be equal to the term you mentioned; loss of consciousness in water. You will also see it referred to as SWB.

Another term to look up in the same search tool is: samba.

One of the members here, Adrian, has a comprehensive glossary of terms that will be useful to understand. It will improve your knowledge of the sport for your clinical use in the Emergency Room.

I am new to the sport myself, but appreciate that you are integrating your hobby with professional knowledge. There is a lot to lean, but great information is available at this site. Looking up some basic terms will help, as well as reading the threads (topics).

I hope this is helpful to you!

Thank you very much for your help! So... you’re a nurse?! Where do you work? I'm working on ambulances service ad on advanced safety sea boat (I don't know if it's the correct names in english). Know you if there’s something about nursing care concernig the first aid to the patient in water, in scientific litterature? I’ve done a research on med-line, but there’s nothing.
Bye!
