Salvimar vacuum barrel kit

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Yes, it looks like the normal standard "washer" between the slider and the tail are to be used to fixate the spear in the muzzle. A free (nude) shaft might be kept in place by the cuff/seal - but yes your right about the narrow space if the shaft is bending while loading - but I'm not sure that it would matter for the function.

Some Italian guy had an idea to glue the "washer" in muzzle to serve as guide for free shaft. He thought STC was better for free shaft. But let us wait for the first impressions after you test your kit.

I received the 13 mm kit today. It looks good.
The kit includes the two piece muzzle, one seal and one shock absorber in Nylon for 7mm spear. No users manual or how to explanation..
The 9mm spear tail on an 8mm spear can not pass through the included shock absorber. It can pass through the muzzle and seal.
The hole through the seal is approx. 9mm at the bottom and 6mm at the top.

Here are some photos and info...

Your kit is for 7 mm shaft, I suppose.
Or, maybe for 8 mm "free shaft".

I like it, it looks small, slim and light weight.
Do you have scale?

Also, one mod would be good: for a freeshaft, maybe a shock absorber bushing with a smaller inner diameter. Say, 7.25mm for a 7mm spear.

I think Seac has a different thread than Mares, but Tomi would know. But I do think Salvi is making, or will make, versions in both threads. I'd ask the vendor or Salvi before ordering.

The weight of the complete kit is 46g.

Well; I hope that it will be possible to use the kit for both 7mm and 8mm shafts with a slider that fits in the muzzle opening.

Maybe the original Sten shock absorber can be used with the kit or I can modify the one that comes with the kit.
The Super Sten is ordered and shipped, but not arrived yet, so I will have to wait and see.

Hi

Seac have 1.5 mm pitch on Asso and Mares have 1.25 mm pitch on Sten, Cyrno , Spark, Sten 11 (pitch of thread).

Here are data from Italian forum (Sub Fireman):

"FILETTO TESTATA CON PASSO FEMMINA PER LA VOLATA E CON PASSO MASCHIO PER LA CANNA da 13 mm .

MARES CRESSI TIGULLIO
M 18 x Passo 1,25

SEAC
M 18 x Passo 1,5

FILETTO TESTATA CON PASSO FEMMINA PER LA VOLATA E CON PASSO MASCHIO PER LA CANNA da 11 mm .
MARES
M 16 x Passo 1,25"

I would not use 8 mm shaft with your kit! You will destroy the gasket very soon, and possibly the modified shock absorber.
You can not use the original shock absorner with that muzzle. It is very different from your new damper.

I understand your concern. The material thickness of the shock absorber that comes with the kit is 2mm – same as the standard shock absorber that comes with the Sten 11 - and the diameter of this is smaller.
It will lose strength if I make the diameter of the hole bigger to accommodate the tail on an 8mm spear. Maybe I will need an anvil in a stronger material.

There are still some facts, that makes me uncertain and keeps me optimistic:

The technical description in the Salvimar catalog states that it can be used for 7mm and 8mm spear with or without tail.

I ordered a spare shock absorber and 3 spare seals - it is specific mentioned on the shock absorber packing (not at the homepage) that it is for 7mm spear. No spear dimension is stated on the packing of the seals. (a little unlogic).

The standard Salvimar washer supplied on both their 7mm and 8mm spears between the tail and the slider both fits perfect in the two recesses in the opening of the muzzle.

I have emailed Salvimar the question. I'm waiting for their reply.

I have been in contact with the Sales Manager, Mr. Marco Zannini, at Salvimar. He has been very fast and helpful with answers to my questions. This is the short version of his reply:

It's possible to use both 7mm and 8mm spear nude or with connector/tail in the 13mm muzzle (Vuoto Testata).
The shock absorber (Vuoto Bushing dumping) that comes with the standard kit is for 7mm spear with or without tail and this can also be used for an 8mm nude shaft (Part number 302001A).
You need another shock absorber (Part number 302001B) for 8mm shafts with tail. This has a larger hole so the 9mm spear tail on an 8mm shaft can pass through the shock absorber. This can be ordered separately as a spare part.

The seal (Vuoto Bushing) part number: LFUCPNEUM24 is the same and can be used for both 7mm and 8mm spear with or without tail.

It is important that the gun is loaded under water. Loading the gun dry might harm the seal.

He appreciated my technical interest in the kit and kindly offered to send me the special shock absorber 302001B free of charge

I will post more details about it when I receive it.

Now only left to test it! Because you also have Tomba I would like you to compare both kits. I expect Salvimar to be more versatile and user friendly and Tomba more powerful. The combination of both would be the best.

Oh, if you email him again, then please ask him for the minimum size of spear. Do they go down to 6.5? 6.75...?

A comparing test would be nice - I would like that too - but I don't have a Tomba kit for 13mm barrel - only 11mm's for 7mm spear.
I think the best way to compare them would include the use of the two, on the same gun, at the same pressure and with the same spear.

Yes, I would like also to try the Tomba slider together with the Vouto. The spare Tomba sliders for 7mm spear that I have fit just a little tight in the muzzle opening - but this could easily be fixed.

Here is a prediction, the vacuum cuffs will be offered in separate sizes eventually. I had assumed that they were, but it seems that they are not. The 8 mm shafts with 9 mm tails will chew up the sealing lip as that is just too much stretch in the longer term. "Taimen" settled on distinct cuff sizes to minimize friction and yet they use a "soft" spear tail. No wonder you need to load the "Salvimar" vacuum muzzle gun wet, although that should be done anyway unless checking the vacuum capability on land (no shots, just the shaft suck back effect).
