As some kind of relaxation, I pretty often go to the sauna. Since I started to be interested in freediving, the relaxing thing is one of the main things to work on. But dealing with low O2 is also one of the things we, this is mainly beginners, I suppose, is to learn how to recognize ppO2 dropping too low.

Yesterday I had a pretty hard scuba exam, so I went to the sauna and thought about pushing myself a bit to 'relax more'. So I put more water on the stove and started to do some comfortable, short apneus. After that, and after cooling down a bit outside, I jumped in the cold pool and did some apneus as well. It felt pretty light and nice in my head, I liked it, but I was a bit scared to black out as well, since I was in that cold pool.

Finally, I stayed outside and rested a bit. I felt amazingly relaxed and closed my eyes enjoying. I wondered what my pulse rate would be, and when I put my fingers on my wrist, I didn't feel any beat for about 4-5 seconds. Really, my pulse rate was about, I don't know, less than 15 or so. That, scared me... I opened my eyes and well, I didn't black out, but I really felt blacking out: I could focus on some points, but I had some kind of tunnel vision/black spots in front of my eyes. So I started hyperventilating slightly to restore O2 - I didn't want to black out, I had an exam to do :p.

Anyway, would this be some kind of DR - dropping pulse rate, vasoconstriction non-vital tissues (very cold after very hot should give pretty good vasoconstriction, right)? ...? Was I at pretty low ppO2 at that moment? And if so, would going to the sauna be a good 'low ppO2'-training? And well, what are exactly the sings for too low ppO2? (The vision thing is one, but are there other sings as well where I should focus on?)
