Hi guys,

I'm new to this forum but thought I'd post my first post here as this is the most relevant area for me :)

So I've done a bit of snorkelling before but I'm doing some in Albufeira on Tuesday as I'm on holiday. If I enjoy it as much as I have before I'm thinking of maybe taking up snorkelling and maybe spearfishing as a hobby. Spear fishing appeals to me due to the whole self sufficient lifestyle thing.

Anyway, I always wanted to take up scuba but because I'm a type 1 diabetic (well controlled) I have so many hoops to jump through that I can't be bothered and snorkelling is the next best thing!

However, I was wondering where about near edinburgh can you spearfish/snorkel? I stay in Broxburn just outside edinburgh.

Cheers
Craig

Hey guys I'm up working in aberdeen at the mo brought the spear kit up looking for some spots to try anywhere preferably around the northeast or even north and west at a push any help much appreciated viz isn't looking to good at the mo but as soon as it clears up am guna try jump in I've found a few likely spots between aberdeen and Peterhead

Great to finally get reasonable conditions at a weekend :)
I took the opportunity and got a dive in after work yesterday then a bit of cod bashing off the yak today.
The freezer is filling up nicely :)

Only been out twice this year, once for spoots and yesterday for fish.
Not a single fish above 3inches to be seen in what one would expect to be the fishiest of fishy areas. Tidal flow, kelp forests, ledges overhangs you name it, But NO FISH. Shore fishing in Shetland is non existent.
I did however find LOTS of crabs at this new location and took 3 for the pot. Delicious!

Had another nice dive with the Razorbills at the weekend. Decided to give the dry barrel pneumatic a bit more time in the water this year and found it was way easier to film these fast moving birds than with the camera on a 105 or 90 band gun. I'd never really noticed how much faster it tracked before.

Its good to see that the new Scottish Airweapons Bill which will require anyone owning an air rifle to possess a firearms certificate has specific exemption for pneumatic spearguns.
