I've been scuba diving for a number of years (16 or 17), and I'm new to the freediving. I am finding that habits I have developed over the years scubadiving (things that have become second nature or automatic) are getting in the way of developing new skills that I need to freedive. Example doing a static breath hold the other night, I was being pushed around in the pool by waves being created by other people in the pool. The movement wasn't bothing me so much as it was making me feel as though I was going to turn over, which I wasn't going to. When I felt like I might turn over my abdoman and the rest of my lower body would tense up to correct the feeling, thus interupting my relaxed state and shortening my breath hold. I'm working through these sorts of things. I'm just wondering if there are many other people that have run into the same sorts of things.
