Sealing for inlet valve?

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Steel with some kind of coating like nitriding or DLC would be interesting. I think all of this advanced technology is all just for the coolness factor and not really used to their potential in spearfishing.

Material selection only gives an incremental improvement in performance in the case of these spearguns. What would be really interesting to me is a new design that can put more power in a smaller package and using less loading effort like vacuum barrels and the mirage gun that was linked.

I think it will come. I think advanced guns will have a resurrection in the coming years because of three things:
A). I sense a boom in spearing or at least one waiting to happen. There will be a segment of people not minding spending a lot of money on any little edge they can get.
B). Doing advanced but low scale of production is becoming easier for more people. CNC machines, 3D printing, CNC laser cutting etc. is becoming easier to access and much, much cheaper. Even for small batches.
Chances are that if you are in any big city some makerspace dudes already have the skills and machines to make smaller parts and it should not too difficult to tap into that.
C). The internet will not only help you connect to these smaller manufacturers - which could, literally, be a guy working out of his bedroom, the internet is also the store front for "the little guy". We see that a lot on these forums. E.g. I have bought parts from a Ukranian guy based in Cyprus and had it shipped to China. Many others have bought from many other small manufacturers that would have very hard to find and communicate with 10-15 years ago.

By the way, where do you spearfish in China?

I don't... I normally head to the Philippines or Thailand though I think I will venture to Lombok/Bali next year. I am building a polespear, too as Okinawa is not too far away either (and spearguns are a touchy subject there).

That said, it's crazy the fish they do have in China. I know they catch big groupers and they have nice big jacks, macks and cudas, too.
These fish have never seen spearos before. Even red snappers are considered easy here... When I say "here" it is down south. But I will probably check it out at some point.
