Hi all, i have been reading the fourms for the past few months and i have just finally joined.
I am 15 and i live on oahu and i need advice!!
I know that i could have a good bottom time but i never seem to get the time i want. My current record is 1:36rofl (lame? yes i know!)
I am on two swim teams so physical fitness/ comfort in the water is not a problem. I am also certified in SCUBA and i enjoy spearfishing/ underwater photography. I really need advice on how to extend my breath holding time, i have a improvised breath resistance thingy ( old snorkle mouth piece and duct tape with tiny hole) as well as plenty of oppertunitys to get wet.
ok i got to go, but any tips/advice and other things are greatly needed!
peace!

forgot to mention this but i also have a monofin that i really enjoy as well as the Manuel Of FreeDiving. My friend and i do exercises with throwing coins into the pool and trying to get them on one breath. I have not been seriously diving in over a month and just last night i struggled with 40 secsonds :head help!
Consider me completely new to freediving and i want to start at the bottom.
again, tips/comments plz. tytytyty

Hi Blue,

Welcome to DB. You are doing great. 1:36 static is a fine place to start. If that was actually diving, it was fabulous.

What you need most right now is to learn to relax. Go diving, breath slow, from the belly, go up and down easy, don't push, relax. If you can do a 30 second average dive and be real comfortable, that's wonderful. If you can't thats ok too, just relax. Once you can relax, slowly increase your down time. Don't worry, it comes with practice. Once you have a base, there are a ton of techniques you can pick up on this forum. A PFI clinic would kick you into high gear, especially on safety issues, but if you get a little more experiance first, it will mean a whole lot more. Of course, if Sands is going to be there, absolutely don't miss it. I'd be there too, if I weren't 5000 miles away.

Good luck

Connor

wow, i didnt expect replies so soon! :) muy bien!
i wish with all my oxygen deprived heart that i coudl go to the course but sadly i dont have the money/time. school is really kicking hard and swim team leaves me no time for anything else. :(
i really only have weekends but the north shore (three tables, sharks cove, chuns, ect.) is too big atm for diving.
I am glad i found yall cuz u guys are making for a great group of friends. thx 4 the tips, keep them coming! :)
does any1 know of any good dive spots on oahu during the winter?

hey Blue.. i dont know much of Hawaii's geography yet, but plan to spend two weeks there and see loads of it. will let you know i am staying and perhaps you could come hang out for a few dives :D

lol, id love to but school and swimming keep me from much else.
wonder what my parents would say if a said i was gonna go dive with a chic i met on the internet? heh, kinda funny.
ya i'd love to go though.
REF the breath holding: yay! i still got it! i tried some of the workouts and i got back to at least a minute. :)

i wont compliment you on your fine looks and youthful grace!
whats ur coolest experience so far under the sea?

I think the way coolest was my first experience with a whale shark, then diving with manta rays... but aside from the big stuff i just love shoals and shoals of fish...

hey Blue
why not join us on the Freediving course in Kona in February at Jacks Diving Locker.
www.performancefreediving.com

loads of us have signed up already :)

Who all signed up? Will you guys be doing beginner or intermediate? I was planning on attending my first PFI course some time in the next 6 months (only requires a 15-min. flight from Honolulu for me!)...That one sounds like an ideal date. Any idea who the instructors will be?

Yep, quite familiar with the site. It doesn't mention which of you are participating in the Feb. clinic though, nor who the instructors will be, so that's why I asked. I've heard that it's not necessarily the case that Kirk Krack, Martin Stepanek, and Mandy-Rae Cruickshank are always the instructors there...But I could be wrong.
